Aftermarket ECU and idle controllers

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

trickydik,

Does this mean the std VR4 stepper motor cannot be used with a stinger. I was about to ask this question of them but it seems you have already encountered this...

I am completely rebuilding a CB Lancer for a mate with a VR4 4G63T which already had a stinger wired in in the dodgey cut and twitch method, so part of it is a new custom engine loom. If this cannot be run do you have any thoughts on what can?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated as I have always run Haltech aftermarket ECU's and am kinda in the dark on the stinger...

To control the stock idle stepper, you need 4 outputs.

V500 / v400 / Autronic / Motec are some of the few.

As for your idle problems, which valve are you using exactly?

Thanks for the reply baz, I realise the standardstepper motoe is a 4 wire control (it's actually very similar to the VR/VS holden and 99/00 WRX). However the vehicle I am rewiring for a mate is a CB Lancer with 4G63T VR4 motor attached to a Stinger 4420 EMS. As it was already in the car when he bought it he wants to run it just rewired.

I am not sure if it has idle problems as when the car arrived at my place it was not on a tilt tray and not running... We already found timing to be out and 3 bent intake vales so idle problems may have been may be more likely due to that then the idle motor...

however after reading trickydik's original post and looking over the Stinger Manual it is obvious that the stock VR4 turbo Idle valve cannot be set up to run with this ECU.

So, does anyone know what will run with this ECU - I will contact Stinger today and ask the same question - but if anyone has been through this they may be able to help also.

Cheers,

I agree the ford unit is probably one of the best external ones. The other one you can use which I have used a lot is the Hyundai Excell Bosch unit off the 1.5 SOHC / DOHC engines. Its a 3 wire BAC valve, which the EMS can use, and its a little more responsive than a normal 2 wire BAC valve. Takes a little more to setup but this is the one we use on a lot of cars if we have to use a BAC valve.

Mitsiman, I have sent you a PM in relation to this. (Do you have a wiring diagram for this?) Fortunately I don 't need to tune it just wrie it all in....

I don't have a wiring diagram as such for the Bosch / Hyundai unit but its only a 3 wire so there will be 1 X power and the two outside ones I beleive will be your master and slave BAC. IN haltech its setup as BAC 1 and BAC Slave. It depends upon what ECU you are usign as to its setup

i have 4424 fitted to my 61 and dont have any real issues at idle its a little higher than i would like but dont have any need to change it works well for me
