I've had the turbine housing for my GTX3076 (0.82A/R housing) ceramic coated and am in the process of re-installing it to the core. However I have a bit of a question - as I did not dis-assemble the turbo so I can't recall what it looked like before coating.

The 3x clamps that are bolted into the turbine housing which hold it against the core - on mine, they sit angled slightly upwards over the core. The core doesn't sit flush or just underflush to the turbine housing ring, it's slightly overflush, which is what is making the clamps sit on an angle.

Is this normal or should the core sit flush and the clamps be flat when bolted down? I've started scraping a bit of the ceramic coating off the ring where the core touches the turbine housing just to make the surface a bit more even, but I doubt it's thick enough to make the core sit subflush.

Just had a look on my 3082 and the centre housing sits about .5mm proud. Can send u a pic if u want

Ahhh, by clamps you mean brackets. Makes sense now...

Thought you meant 3 v band clamps....

Anyway, from memory they were not flush. The ceramic coating should only be about 10 thou thick. There was a few mm difference. Don't forget to Loctite and torque to spec (or try too).

I found a pic for ya.

Ah sorry for the confusion guys, my description wasn't too flash was it!?

Thanks heaps for the info.

Baz - your pic is perfect - it's showing exactly what I'm seeing when I bolt mine up, the 3 clamps (or plates!) sitting angled slightly up when they're over the core.

Speaking of loctite - I've been told two different strings now: To loctite and to not loctite. Am confused as to which way to go!!

Sorry George, Loctite - Anti seize I should have said. I think its rated at like 2000° F. I always use a smidge. Bolts and exhaust always seem to hate each other.

Also, from the Garrett spec sheet for GT turbos.
V-band nut: 50 inch pounds
Except for GT40-50 : 110-130 inch pounds.
Compressor: 145-165 inch pounds.
Turbine: 185-215 inch pounds.

Lol George. My GT30/to4s and GT35r had 2 * brackets from memory. My T51r has 6!

Flush = Chinese copy. They tried to hard to copy the original and did a better job of it... Time for a new turbo Rob.

bwahahaha... good try George :p . Its an original Garrett 0.82 turbine housing from my GT3040R/ GT3082 which was manufactured before Chinese knockoffs were invented lol (see pics)
The triple brackets are the cheap Chinese knock-offs. Shayne, you should ask for a refund ;)
Yeah Baz, the turbine housing is on the new GTX3076R and ready to bolt on. Just gotta build my #1 gearbox before putting engine and box back into the car.
