Hm, had a low beam light pop the other night and was thinking of maybe replacing my headlights for HID's. has anyone else changed over? noticed improvements? did you go with 6000k or 8000k?
Also, how hard is it to get the front parker globes out? i replaced my tailight globes and numberplate globes today and was just on a whole "replace every globe" spree but couldnt find an easy way to get the front parker lights out :(

HID's are arse unless your headlight system is designed to focus them properly.

there is nothing worse for other drivers on the road than retro fitted HID's.

if you get a proper install system, with the focusing projector then they are good. i remember there being some massive price difference between a proper HID kits and a Rice bowl kit.

to4garret. I have them and would disagree. they're only a problem when not setup correctly and tilted well.

as for the parkers. there is a 8mm (with Phillips head) bold sitting on the panel. undo it (and dont drop it) and the light slides forward and out.

My brother has the 8000k ones in his civic and swears by them as being well worth the money. I've thought about getting some but don't do too much night driving but i like to blind oncoming traffic when they high beam me back

I had a big post written out about HID's, but i really cant be bothered. so i deleted it.

i dislike them, because on numerous occasions i have been blinded by dumb fucks who install cheap shit kits and blind everyone because of their stupidity.

even when adjusted properly, if you are an on comming driver and you cop and eye full (over bumps etc) it can dazzle you for a few seconds, which at 100kph+ can be really dangerous.

even though australia's laws are fairly relaxed around installing HID's, doesnt mean the laws are right. in the EU its law for manufacturers to have the bulbs autolevel as to prevent blinding and have proper focusing. this is something that will not be in a reasonably priced aftermarket kit.

i know its not illegal in AU, its just something i really hate as i have nearly whiped out a few times because of non-standard HID installations. I am also a little more suseptible to light/halos at night so it could just be my eyes as well.

out off all the modifications that could be performed to a car, i believe headlights are the mods which affect other users on the road the most.

i personally would put a nice set of philips halogens in and leave the HID's for NS.com

I have installed HIDs to my sedan and bike,
With correct settings, they are no worse than standard globes.

I currently for the last 2 nights have had morons with normal globes tilted toward the sky, and therefore shine light right into my rear view mirror when I'm in the RVR... says alot.

Meanwhile, they are illegal.
*off road use only* is marked.... or should be marked, on all kits.

you could get away with installing a < 6000k HID kit if the dispersion isnt too bad, you could get done for ADR's though if the cop is a prick.

when you have 3x the lumens, any minor variation in the optics, which will be exagerated because the the reflectors are not desgined for xenon's even with the correct settings, they have the potential to dazzle drivers more than halogens.

i hate them, but thats my opinion.

i love mine lol they are the best upgrade over putting huge as light force spotties on my front bar. but i live in the country a fair distance from any major towns so yeh...

IMO 6000k and below is acceptable. After seeing and installing a shitload of HID kits, I'd personally go with ~4500k. They are visibly more "blue/white" than most halogens but are just stronger. Hardly noticeable to the average punter that they'd be HID's but makes a big difference on the road. Even a lot of 6000K claimed units are far above that and are noticeably and visibly blue, not white as they are supposed to be.

I have them in my evo eight and ......they are crap. they just don't seem to have any real power of distance. yes I have the right jap spec lenses etc but the light emitted while quite bright in close to the car doesn't carry out far

the standard low beam in my falcon is heap easier to drive with

6000 is enough go cruize hid, doesnt blind ppl at all in melbourne... use to have it on my bmw e30 and now have on my rx7 as weekend car

It might sound like a cop-out if you're really keen on HID's, but just upgrade to a decent phillips (or similar) white bulb like to4garret mentioned.
It made a heap of difference on mine as now i don't have to rely on the dull yellow crap that the factory deems sufficient.

Takes 2 mins to change, and doesn't cost any more than $30-40 ;)
