Hi all,
I am considering installing an Apexi SAFC 2 onto my GSR. It is fairly stock with an exhaust and EVO3 FMIC. I notice it runs quite rich when it comes on boost and has done so since I bought it - must be the factory tune to keep things safe. So in the interests of achieving better fuel economy and more performance I thought this would be a good option.

Just wondering whether anyone has installed/used one and interested to know of the experiences in both tuning, installation and results from the using it.

I've had one sitting next to me ready to install in my gsr for a few months now. Only reason i haven't is due to lazyness and also i can't find a place to mount it. My car is similar, as in the exact same mods and runs a bit rich too.

As for tuning i was given this link by brisvr4....good read, fun way to tune with some WOT runs :D

Once you install yours let me know where you mounted it, i'll get around to it one day i swear

my safc and avcr are mounted in my glove box which means i cant put anything in there.. good as it avoids unwanted attention then say mounting it on the dash..

Yeah the glovebox has crossed my mind but if i want to fine tune on the fly it's kind of a bit hard to lean over. I'll find somewhere eventually i suppose.

I guess i will mount it in the glovebox.. somewhere tucked away so it doesn't cause too much "eye candy" for would be theives.
What results have you guys had from installing one of these? Good / bad experiences??

wait... its not as good as i remembered...

and its pretty much the same as you guys have mentioned. yeah its the older model but you get the drift...

Well where he has the avcr mounted is where i'm thinking i'm going to mount my safc2. It's viewable to everyone from there but it's the only place i can see to mount it and also where it is easily accessable to fine tune.

sure is...

another idea could be to drop your sterio into the storage compartment, then mould it into a custom made plate where your sterio was. although you would probably lose your cup holder if you wree to do this.

im sure that you will find somewhere good to mount it...

yeh thanks Missile lol

Well 1 place i was thinkin of mountin it up on the roof in the middle between the visors and in front on the mirror, but i didjnt do it coz the lights will just piss me off

but where i mounted it is the only place i like it, my mates now even have their apexi's installed the same place :p

i had a SAFC II but i sold it coz i didint know where to mount it, so i bought a cheapo AFC and threw it in the glove box

what you can do it, thats if you dont need a glove box.. make a plate and close the WHOLE glovebox up, then cut a hole to mount the SAFC II in it

or you can mount it in your dash on the passenger side above the glove box

Here is a new photo

I had mine mouted under the stereo. I didnt use the Apexi holder tho, i used a piece of alluminium angle and double sided tape, it looked pretty neat, nice and flush. Cant remember if i could still use the cup holders tho. It never attracted any unwanted attention, most people thaught it was a double din head unit.

Hrmm actually that's a very good idea, never thought of that. Well once i get some spare time i'll have a shot at that and see how it looks. Any pics of the install champ?

I too am looking at going down this path soon by using the SAFCII, as for mounting it ive already got a RSM on top of my steering colum which is fine for now but i did plan on moving so i already have a solution.....

While i know thats not in the car that is normally discussed in this area of the forum, im using it as an example, its not hard work to do if you got a spare sat and or sun and are prepared to put in some work. :)

Ill have a look thru that tuning guide as well, cheers for the link.

I might have a pic somewhere. If i find it i will put it on here so you can check it out.

Well finally have a day off and the boredom has set in so i thought about trying to make something. Found some 3mm perspex lying around the place, got out the old butane torch and bent up something.

I think for 20 mins or so work and the tools that i had here it's not too bad for a prototype. Once i get back to work from tafe i'm going to be able to make up something a little better but for now this will do. It sits in the compartment under the head unit and for now is going to be secured with velcro strips. Pretty much the mount is removable and so will the safc, just incase you park it in a dodgy are and don't want to attract any attention. Unfortunatly the cup holders are useless after this, but i'll come up with something. Following are a couple of pics. Time to mount it, wire it in and tune it. Oh by the way sorry about the quality of the photo's but all i've got is my camera phone.
