ooh not feeling the best about a 1.74 60 footer anymore noticed a nice whine in first gear yesterday... after all the fun on friday night i hope to god nothing is up with it as its onli just done 10k... its not too noisy but im a bit concerned....its not noticealbe in any other gear except 1st.. any ideas fellas????

*Mod edit 3zercrowd* Moved for new problem.

(You will get all the help you need Tufrice  )

We had the same thing come up a couple of months ago. The customer had a whining noise in first gear. I asked him to bring his inputshaft and fist gear to me so that I could match up a replacement. His first gear was worn through the case hardening on the drive side of the gear tooth surfaces. This would be due to extreme pressures on the gear teeth or degrading or incorrect oil. This is usually more common to transmissions that are factory filled with ATF.
If this is your problem running a thicker oil may quiet it down somewhat, but the syncros may not like it. It is hard for me to judge how long a gear that has worn through the surface hardening will last before it starts pitting or pops a tooth.

damn man i shouldnt be hearing anything that damn gear has done 25 launches if its lucky its brand new arrrghhh i hate shit mechanics

wat oil should i run through it...

so ure saying its onli a matter of time before it goes bang again...

I don't know the history of your car, but I don't think it would be fair to be blaming anybody just yet...factory parts have thier limitations.

ohh nah hes a shit mechanic it took 3 months an $3500 to get 1st gear rebuilt after it broke mind u this was before i knew nothing of this website etc etc...yeh look it beats me why its making that noise its onli slight...

but i guess that means no more drag racing im just a bit upset as the 12month warranty lapsed like last week an its onli done 10k 7 of which was done on a fried clutch so there was no launching there just driving...

Just fill up the gear box with 2.2L and the front and centre diff will be fine  Unless your driving style is questionable  (Waits for hit in the arm from Dave :p )
