hi i was looking at swapping an auto rvr 4g63t into my gsr.

i've read alot about 4g63 swap but there seems to be not as much info on vr4 swap compare to rvr, especially auto rvr.

anyways i was looking into something similar to this:

can someone help me out with:
1. ill be mating it with my gsr box, ive also bought a clutch kit from meek, will it be able to replace the torque conveter etc.?

2. can i use the rvr mounts?
3. can i use gsr harness? and what ecu should/can i use?

gsr harness will ne to be altered alil for the alternator loom as the 4g63 has the alt on the front. go and grab an altenatr loom from a 1.5l carby cc gl as they have the alt in the same place.

mounts i think you have to source evo.
clutch kit replace auto fly.
you'll probably want evo ecu.

1. You also need a flywheel and bolts
3. Will need to mod the gsr loom as the rvr doesn't have the same cas on the back of the intake cam. plus the above altenator wiring
2. Still need a mount

This is from memory from evocoupe.net there is a big write up on there from the gurus

anything else. The auto may be worth a few dollars to some people here. same as the tcu etc.
 
jack 3 was what you said in 2 his last q was about mounts. he can always change the cas or mate the correct cas plug to his loom

Im not sure the rvr head will accept a evo style cas. there was a topic about this before and i don't think it was resolved.
I think they had a rvr and suspected cas problems, they wanted to change it to the more available evo style cas.

so, can they bolt on?

Anyways so alternator/starter needs to be separate and extended.
Evo mounts and ecu.
My only concern now is with the cas. So can anyone confirm that the evo cas is bolt on?
Are the rvr cas same as early style vr4 cas? If so then you can just simply rewire it?

9. If you have a VR4 evo engine as in our case, the original GSR crank angle sensor plug will bolt straight into the VR4 evo 4-wire CAS. If you dont have VR4 evo engine and have the earlier style VR4 CAS, you will need to rewire the CAS to suit (I didnt do this so cant comment on it) and here is something I grabbed from somewhere else that will help:
If its a VR4 engine the Cam/Crank angle sensor will need to be rewired, totally different plugs. These are the colours that go together, red to red, white to white, black to large black, yellow to small black. Only Evo 0 VR4 engines have the same style cam/crank angle sensor as the Evo and GSR, so no rewire required.
 
Afaik the rvr has a cam sensor behind the intake cam pulley and a crank sensor down by the crank pulley.
Im sure you can rewire the gsr loom to the rvr loom. the cas are functionally the same, just from 2 different locations.
 
Was hoping that the evo cas would bolt onto the rvr head making things simple, as I'm not very good when it come to wire harness.

You will also need the sandwich plate between the gearbox and block, the auto is different, you can use the GSR starter motor

You will need to change the throttle body

You will need timing side engine mount, the EVO/GSR CAS will fit the RVR cams

Just trying to thing what else we did to fit an auto rvr engine in Angelos GSR, PM EVO00X, he prob still have pics of the conversion
 
you can't use a gsr fly bolt to crank are different. and from what mikey said you can use gsr/evo cas and leave loom unchanged you will however still need that alternator loom like i said raid a 1.5l carby for it
 
Cheaper to buy a 4g63t man gsr that someone else has built.
If you do build your own, as Cranked said above, I could do with auto spare parts.

Or use a 6bolt 2.0 na sonata. and don't pop the na pistons

with the sonata engine is it's engine code g4cp? and pretty much a 4g63.

how strong are these motor?
is the head same as an evo head? (will evo turbo manifold bolt right on)
and is it direct bolt in and plug in loom?
will evo internals fit the block?

firstly read evo00x link above. Much knowledge shared freely there.
The g4cp is closest to the vr4 engine. so probably stronger than a evo block.
The head will accept evo or vr4 exhaust manifold. has larger intake ports than evo but smaller than vr4. Have heard they have different size cam journals.
Loom will not plug in, needs the same mods as vr4 engine. gsr loom is pretty close and only needs minor work.
Evo internals will not fit. needs vr4 parts.
You really need turbo pistons for long term reliability at any decent boost level.
Afm is different to evo, but ecmlink chip for the ecu will fix that and allow gsr afm.
