Hi All,

I'm planning to avoid needing a TCU.
Do you have any input or references on how I should approach this?

Can anybody list what solenoids/wires need to be activated for each gear to be selected?

I've looked at the shift box wiring diagrams and should have some learnings from that (still need some time to read it).

Am i safe to say that this is how the stock TCU works?

Input > Gear Lever position / speed / tps / rpm
Process > TCU maps
Output > Gearbox solenoids

My aim will be to run my auto off the Autronic ECU.

This means:

1. wire outputs from ECU to gearbox
2. create maps on the ECU to activate each output pending speed/rpm/tps/load (boost)
3. inputs to the ECU will be gear lever position (D/R/N etc).

The reason I want to do this is because my TCU is a 3 plug version and does not have an EPPROM.
Either I have to purchase an RVR one or use my Autronic that I already have.

Feedback appreciated.

This is only the second time i have looked at this.
I was looking at the 95+ wiring so perhaps i need to look again for the vr4

Outputs. It looks to me that 2 solonoids control the gear selected. So- 10, 11, 01, 00 for gears r,1, 2, 3 and the 3rd solonoid is for 0 or 1 for overdrive (or converter lockup in the 2g)
The last solonoid is the shift pressure. I can see that it is transistor based inthe wiring diagram. We know the blue wire mod (its listed as L-Y in diagram) makes this shift at full pressure. I would say its a pwm output....

i dont know if they are 12v solonoids or 5v?

^these are only my musings.

Also there is meant to be the ecu runs different maps for p/n compared to 1,2,3,4. I didnt notice it on diagram but its prolly there

Notice he says if the shift sequence is wrong then the wires to solonoids need changing.

this suggests that 1,2,3,4 are on 2 solonoids.
You need to wire in the tcu and check voltages on solonoids in each gear really.
and so im not sure how reverse is done. But i thought it was on same solonoid as one of the gears. Because i keep hearing that you cant make a trans brake for these boxes as the solonoid controlling 1-r cant be in 1 and r at same time.

A good read here.

12v to the solenoid.

This should be easy.

2 wires to output.

Pending conditions I can activated as required.

Solenoid A ON, Solenoid B ON = First gear
Solenoid A OFF, Solenoid B ON = second gear
Solenoid A OFF, Solenoid B OFF = Third gear
Solenoid A ON, Solenoid B OFF = Overdrive/Fourth.

Or.

The 2G solenoid shift pattern is as follows.

Solenoid A/B
Solenoid ON/ON = 1st
Solenoid ON/OFF = 2nd
Solenoid OFF/OFF = 3rd
Solenoid OFF/ON = OD/4th
