Hey guys,

Im wanting to upgrade the system in the GSR, BUT, I dont want any Subs, Amps etc etc.....

Just a good head unit, some component/splits up front, and 6x9s in the parcel shelf factory location.

Im keen to hear peoples sugestions. Model numbers/codes would be appreciated!

thanks in advance.

I'm about to go thru the same thing with my lancer....

If you want anything sounding half decent, you really need to amplify the speakers.

I have a dated Pioneer head unit, and wiring already setup for an amp in the boot already. The head unit is sweet, cos it has RCA outs and a semi decent equaliser. I'm sourcing a second hand amp, and scored some cheap front 6.5" speakers for the door (fusion). I'm gunna head down to J.B hifi or maybe even ebay for some 400w 6x9's for the parcel shelf. Bazeng is kindly giving me some 4" speakers for the dash. All up, its going to cost me less than $350 and a day to put them in, and i'll have a semi-decent sounding setup. :)

For you tho, I reckon a pair of decent pair of Pioneer 6x9's and a decent 2-channel amp and you're away laughing!

ok firstly how loud and how clear sound do you want to go? you dont always have to amp speakers to get good sound..... correct set up and speaker choice for different positions in the car can change sound heaps...

i am a complete stereo n00b,

my ears are so stuffed from abuse that if i can hear words in a song then the stereo is good.

in the end, all i really wanted was a bluetooth stereo and USB/MP3. bluetooth mainly so i could thrash k0rn and then be interupted by a phone call from my missus while racing a GTR asking me if i wanted my jeans washed....

anyway, all i have is a sony bluetooth/front USB head unit, sony front splits, and sony 6x9's

i dont care what people say about sony, they sound great to me and price point was awesome.

just go to JB HIFI and pick a whole lot of expensive stuff out then say, mmm, i'll buy it if it $200 cheaper. or something along those lines...

i love that ****, stare at the wall for ages, pick some speaker and head unit out, ask the sales dude for a package price, **** says prices are on the wall, ask for manager, prices drop %25 :D

Okay, let me re-phrase that!

If you want some sounds with some balls, then you need the speakers to be amped :p

Get somethign that has traditional number buttons along the bottom. My brother has a pioneer likw that that has one big knob that controls all, its bloody AWFUL to use, he's changing the unit !

Yeah, I did think about that when looking at them. I like the Kenwood head units better anyway....

Youd get used to the Pioneer though surely

You'd need an amp big fella for quality.
Pioneer for headunits. (Top end h/u anyways.)
then a nice set of focal splits up front, (highly recommend splits)
and a nice set of boston 6x9's in the rear.
How much do you want to spend?

Check my latest private rides post Dan, you and I are on the same wave length at the moment lol  We installed Fusion RE-CM650 6.5" front splits last night (the Fusions for the same money had better specs than the KFC Kenwood 6.5"splits so got them instead), got some new Kenwood 6x9" out back on an mdf parcel shelf and getting a mates Kenwood DDX5032 DVD player up front to run it :) IF I am going to use an amp it'll be mounted under the parcel shelf :)

I have a DEH-pioneer headunit in my GSR, the bluetooth component is great and it has all the outputs you will ever need but I tend to agree with the above comment, the big knob controls the ipod input and it is a massive FAIL :)

I have one in these in my daily. It's a nice unit.
