I'm stuffed... has anyone ever tried fitting both rear power windows on a GSR/EVO1-3 and have the 3 holes for the motor not align up? The vertical slider fits no problem, but it seems the black cable from it to the motor is shorter than what it should be because I cant get the holes for the motor to align up so I can bolt it on. Even when I stretch it as far as I could the holes miss out by about 5mm - dont want to break the plastic guides so dont want to stress it too much. Does anyone else know what I'm going through and what the solution may be? I tried mounting the motor first, but then the slider doesnt align up and the window cant bolt onto it. :? This has got me fukd? :?:

Are you sure you have the right one on each side? I found that jap cars have really horrible power window mechanisms, for example the 300zx, when I replaced the motor in that I was sure that the only way I'd get the slider out was to cut a hole in the door.

Do you remember how you got it out? Try laying the whole mechanism on the floor and work out which bit needs to go in first, with the 300 there was a specific order things needed to go in otherwise it wouldn't fit at all. Plus the window needed to be at a specific height, I had to get someone to hold the window.

Silly question, but is the window guide(the white plastic thing that the window connects too by 2 screws) at the bottom or the top of the slides?

Maybe if you plug the power in and move the guide up or down maybe you will get more slack?

Yeah you cant get any of them wrong, there's only one way they bolt up and its a mirror image for the mechanism on the opposite door. Yep, hooked up the power and slid them all the way up and down to see if it gives me any extra length but to no avail. I am fitting the power windows of an EVO into a GLXi sedan, which is the same door cause I doubt they'd have different holes. Anywho, will go and check it all out again today.

Are you serious Jon? The ones I got are from an EVO 2. You'd think that because they are all sedan there wont be any difference between the rear doors. . Seems wierd that they may be different. I might consult Chris Meek or Andrew at CVAP to see if they can shed some light

Rob there is two generations of internal power window mechs you definately have the wrong generation for that car.

Well fark me... learn something new everyday!! You can get away with it, just have to drill a couple of new holes about 5mm offset from the existing ones by the looks of it. Or, anyone want to swap their GSR rear power window mechanisms for a set of EVO 2/3 ones?

then theirs wont fit

Just drill the hole for the motor to sit in there, as long as the window slider bolts in it should move up n down fine

i did that but they catch on the window mechanism..

Jon

I have supplied about 15 used rear window winders over the last couple of years and never had a problem. I have also fitted them to Aust GL doors with no dramas. All have been import evo 1 2 3 or GSR ones. I find it hard to see why Mits would change these in any way. Mind you I have been wrong before.

^^^ thats what I thought Andrew, but I swear I've tried fitting them in numerous times and even with my head on a slant with one eye closed and the **** still wont align up properly. This is for both of the rear doors. If it were one door, I'd know the unit was crap but to have them not align on both rear doors raises the eyebrow. The front ones fit fine  In CAPS, do the EVO 1-3/GSR/GL/GLXi rear doors have all the same MB part number? I'll ask in the CAPS section.

These 2 are pass rear and are the same .1 from evo 1 ,1 from evo 3. Its marked incorrectly. They are drivers side

BIG THANKS to Andrew for posting up the pic of the door and a BIG BLONDE MOMENT for me as I was looking at the wrong holes (looking at the same ones that the mechanical winders used!!  )

Umm... look in the pic below, I was trying to mount the mechs in the yellow circled areas as per the location for the mechanical winders, not the green circled areas as Andrew's pic shows  Hey, it happens to look like it goes in the same places as the mechanical ones do and not ever seeing how it fits in a sedan before I was looking at that **** on a slant and still couldnt get the right hole  I have better luck with the Mrs though  Carry on peoples  (Now I gotta see if it fits the right way)
