Hello,

I own a 92 Lancer Evo that I drive on the track.

I have stock rotors with Carbotech XP10 pads all around. I use ATE Superblue brake fluid.

I was thinking of making some custom front brake cooling ducts to help reduce fade.

Has anybody done it on an early evo?

Would love to see examples.

Thanks!

some flex duct from the front of the bar ram fed to blow onto the back of the rotor should do the trck just gota be carful not to foul the wheels

I had fade on my brakes on the track and it turnt out my brake bias valve was stuffed and sending 100% of my braking to the front.

You get fade with XP10s?!!!

Hard fade or soft fade?

At most tracks, I get fade after maybe 3-4 laps. Boiled fluid. The pads can handle it but the system heats up too much for the fluid.
I think ducts will help a lot.

Very interesting... My rear pads barely get used up. They do brake (I hear them squealing) but who knows how much pressure is sent to the back.
With the car on stock suspension, the squat was pretty impressive during hard breaking: I almost felt that the rear wheels were lifting off from the ground. It can get "a bit" unstable :)

How did you find out the bias valve was defective?

Any way to test that?

That sounds like what I have in mind.

Do you have pictures of your setup?
The passenger side s a bit tricky because of the oil cooler.

Did you remove the rotor backing plates completely?
How did you attach the flex duct at the front? and back?

Thanks in advance!

i myself havn't done it but theres a write up in one of the pi/fast 4's i have here i'll take a look this arvo and scan it up if i can find it

I have some that mount on the caliper bolts and blow the cool air into the inside of the rotor which is where you need
it to be. I cant find a pic of them mounted up but they go inbetween the caliper and the knuckle.

Obviously they are to suit brembos but the idea for any caliper would be the same.

here is an awesome bit of paint work to show where it will roughly mount

Thanks a lot!

Did you notice an improvement in heat resistance and diminished fade?

How did you plumb the intake for the ducts? On both sides of the i/c?

I have used ducts on various cars, the air should always be directed into the centre of the rotors as others have already said.

On my evo I will be ducting from each side in front of the intercooler, but I can do that due to the front bar that I have.

they are an off the shelf bracket for the later models mate, piece of piss to make Im sure but its just one less
thing for barry to make.

They are from UAS (unique auto sports) in sydney. Marinetowing has the full kit on his 6.5
