Hey guys,
I got the brake light shinning on my dash now so thought it would be good to get a brake upgrade.
My thoughts are to put a couple of RDA OR DBA (can someone please explain the diff) slotted rotors on the front and new Green stuff pads all round!
What would be a reasonable cost and what do I need to look out for?
Is it is easy to install or is it best done via the brake people?
I have been quoted:
$275 for the rotors (rba 402?)
$80 for the front pads
$80-90 for the rear pads
$120 fully installed.
total no worry or fuss: $565

The brake light on the dash means your hand brake is engaged or your brake fluid is low.

As for your brake upgrade, seach the forum as it's been covered a few times.

Do you want to go a complete break upgrade ie; upgrade to 4 spot fronts on 330mm rotors? Or just do slotted rotars, green stuff or red stuff pads? Difference between minor upgrade for better performance or major upgrade and replacing wheels with minimum 17" wheels to run them?

RDA402's for the front i believe.... is that $245 a pair? slotted or stock?

i'll get you a price soon bro.....

I got 17's already, Just looking for a bit more performance in the braking department. I would like to do one or two track days in the future. The 330's sound good. I would like to know the price diff.

Thanks bro you da man! Cheers can you also check the 330mm rotors as well? Would like to know what the diff is?

is it $275 per side or for 2 cos thats cheap for 2 front disks
i paid about $600 all up with dba's an fitted em myself, an that was with a mate at bursons choppin the price

Yeah.. Your looking at gto disks redrilled to 4 stud, gto calipers and a plate to bolt the calipers to.

Overall, your probably looking at $1k ish for GTO brake upgrade just for the fronts.

If you're running twinpot calipers, EBC green pads cost around $165 for the front.

As for the rear, I wouldn't suggest gettting green as it will be a waste of money. Just get bendix or something. Remember most of your braking is done at the front.

A light shouldn't come on when you have low brake pads
Dont take away my excuse for a brake upgrade

I been reading the forums seems it is a pretty hard job to get done and the expense is not really worth it for what I need however the minor upgrade of slotted rotors and better pads will suit me better. Cheers!

Good advice, I will take it cheers!

forgot to mention, if you're after EBC pads, cheapest place i've found is better brakes up in bayswater:

Better Brakes Bayswater

1 / 381 Bayswater Road Bayswater VIC
Phone :03 9729 6611

Just throw some twin spot callipers on up front, and some Lucas pads in front and rear and some Penrite Syn fluid. The Lucas/ Penrite combo all up will probably cost less than a set of EBC's for the front and work better as well.

And find out why your low fluid level light is on.

Interesting read on RDA vs DBA: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/general/98572-rda-disc-rotors-vs-dba-rotors.html . Fair enough its a Commodore forum but there's some valid points in there that might be worth considering RDA rotors instead of DBA for road and limited track use.

Now that EBC & RDA have joined forces selling side by side in Australia http://www.ebcbrakes.com.au/index.php/rotors.html those with contacts in the biz will find themselves saving some $$ in the brake upgrade department. If you can get this stuff at cost price, you're looking at a pair of RDA front solid rotors and pads for under $150 the whole set!! (cheaper than getting your stockies machined + new pads)... not that anyone here wants solid rotors and RDA pads though lol.

Im getting a price on slotted RDA's and EBC Green Stuff pads tomorrow to see how it compares :)

rda and ebc have been together for years, rda is the oz ebc supplier.

also on galants the light will come on when the pads are low. the fluid level will drop enough for the light to come on.

That link is full of crap. It really does go to show anything can be posted on the net.

DBA are made local, RDA chinese. Check some other forums for feedback.

I was looking at RDA Vs DBA for my car a while back. Guys who had RDA rotors on the track had them warping after a lap or 2. DBAs outlasted 'em heaps.

They're whinging about drilling after casting... i wonder if they have any clue about manufacturing.
And how many people use cross drilled anyways? drilled is aesthetics only. slotted is all you need. The purpose of drilling is simply to vent gasses from the pads, which slots do anyways. Gives you 0.5 of 1% of a second increase in performance. Also helps disperse heat too and all, but if they're getting that hot, you should be using the right pads. and less material + more heat is not a good thing. DBA extensively test their rotors.

I've been to their factory in silverwater and seen their manufacturing and testing facilities. Is good shit.

The only caution/common complaint about DBA rotors is warping; commonly caused by people hosing down rotors after driving the car, to get rid of brake dust before washing the car; or people on tracks not letting the brakes cool down properly afterwards.

Do some more research on the rotors basically. I wouldn't be just trusting what's in that one link.

Yeah forums can waffle on with shit but the Commodore boys would be largest user of RDA's in the market I reckon and have the most experience with them. They use RDA in motorsports like V8 supercars and rally so they wouldn’t compromise safety if the product wasn’t any good. Maybe they aren’t as good as DBA’s but they’ll still be good. Brake rotors can warp no matter what brand they are depending on the amount of heat and stress they face. Yep, slotted rotors will be the choice. I've seen what happens to cross-drilled rotors after time. Damn near scarey shit seeing cracks in them like a 'join the dots' puzzle book lol
