Been looking at a few cars interstate as there aren't too many options in melbourne atm. I did a quick search and found a bit of info but still have a few questions if anyone can answer them.

From what I understand to register a car from interstate here I will need to get a Victorian RWC, pay rego, stamp duty and cancel the current interstate rego. Correct?

What bout in regards to Engineer Certificates from interstate? Do they hold any relevance in Victoria? It'd make it easier to get it through with one would it?

Since it will need to get re-registered in Vic, will it need to get checked out at vicroads? Eg. Book an appointment, so on. Or is it as simple as going in and paying for rego?

any ideas what the inspection consists of dan? is it just engine number check? or is it a full car inspection? what if there are mods? would the car need to be almost stock to pass it?

All we needed was a RWC, and then they just check engine and chassis numbers. We had to fill out a Change of Engine form and fill out a stat dec too....

That was for the CB 3dr GSR we brought back from NSW which GlenGSR has now :)

Yep, you just need a RWC, they check engine and vin number match their database, thats it.

One of the girls came out to do the inspection, she said my car was import (its not), I just nodded and let her tick the boxes ;)

Appointment costs $40-80? Any rego left from interstate can be refunded to you....after their exit fees of course

hmm sounds easy enough, i just don't want to get the car down here and then find out i need to change alot of parts back to stock causing more headaches.

i just called vicroads and yeah you're right dre. they main reason to inspect the car is the check the vin/engine numbers and ensure they're the same. if i have a rwc then it should all be good. fingers crossed!

there's a few i've been eyeing, still deciding which one i would like the most which mainly depends on cost/ease of getting it registered here in Vic. Just wanted to get a good idea on what's needed to get it registered here so I know what I'm getting myself into.

As for what I've been looking at, there's a few! ranging from a gsr, evo 4 and even an evo 5!

2) If the car was legally registered in another state (engineers cert etc etc) then it doesn't need one here anymore. It's a nice loophole to get a car into vic that is otherwise hard to engineer.

The inspection is purely engine number/vin number and ADR tags on the seatbelts. VICroads puts it faith in the mechanic that did the RWC (harharhar)

In other words Olly you will have to have the car in a roadworthy condition no matter what, so mods may have to be removed in order to get in rego'ed/
