EVO-OOX u clearly haven't been to Calder!! man the place is a dump!! no seats to sit on. Fair enough it isn't cheap to run, but fark where has the money from the last 10 years gone?? up until the start of this year u couldn't even read the boards!!! W.S.I.D is sick!!!!! if they had a track like that in melb it would be awesome!! :D

I have vague memories of going to watch drags when i was about 8. That was close to that last year it was run.

Yeah I hear you MADEVO - shits me that people run purely for profit without putting some of the proceeds back into the venue, for the people and for the love of motorsport  . Where I sit we just have to take what we can get even if it's up da shit because 'something' is still better than 'nothing'. I envy the boys who live near these types of facilities. I'd be happy to have a shithouse venue in my hometown because right now we have nothing but a tiny hill climb track that you finish in half a minute and dont get over 80kmh on. We used to have at least 3 motorsport complexes in this town but they have since shutdown. Over the last couple of years there were plans to construct the Newcastle International Motorplex just 5 minutes down the road from me which would have contained a race circuit to host a round of the V8 Supercars and other events (club etc) on a weekly basis, plus a state of the art dragstrip to host international meets. Its been a shitfight between the developers, the RTA, Council and residents over the last couple of years and it may never ever go ahead  In the meantime boys have no choice but to go to WSID which is over 2 hours away, so we are at least thankful we have access to that :D

Calder takes about an hour to get to from the city in 5pm friday traffic!!!!

I'd travel 3 hours to be able to race at WSID!!!!!!

Wed night is ten times better day to race too!!!

$1.2M for land,

$700K for track,

$300K for seating,

$150k for facilities.

Wait you wanted reliable not outta my ass...You can't price something like that. Too many variables. Where What etc etc

My figure earlier was a very rough estimate for the 100m strip dimension just for the asphalting!!! (I work for the RTA and deal with resurfacing of roads all the time  ) but as Bobwrinkle stated its definitely at least a couple of million bucks to put something together as its difficult to find a decent stretch of land away from residents, doesnt have any erosion and sediment control problems, you can connect communications, power, water, sewerage, stormwater etc to, passes all Environmental fauna/flora/EPA legislation, has easy access for spectators and multiple emergency evacuation exits, carparking, there are way too many variables to consider and then some more in variations for things the RTA has to take into consideration like whether existing roads cater for the amount of cars travelling there during major events, do traffic signals need to be constructed?, do we need to upgrade intersections? bloody big jobs require a hell of a lot of people involved in the project  Tracks that were built all those many years ago have it sweet as they were constructed before a lot of legislation changes over the years took place. Its a lot harder to get something up and running nowadays not only because of the red tape and having to jump through hoops, but also the costs involved are much higher

Looks like I'm driving 10 hours to take mine to a dragstrip. Someone give me a home for the weekend when the time comes 8)

AUSVR4, the weekend is the 25th of november!!! I think that a track would be easy to build, considering the following u would have, it is just the public liability that would bite u in the arse!! i.e - some one in there VL calais turbo bro, kills himself and a few spectators so there parents and loved ones want to sue??? That always shits me, when u see people that have been injured at the scene of street racing and they blame someone?? they went there to see people do stupid sh*t in their cars and coz they got hurt it is always someone elses fault!!! Anyways, lol even if u had like a PLAYLAND FOR CARS, like a skate park, have a burnout pad for the V8's and a strip with a set of traffic lights :D which also gave u ur times!! would be a glourious place!!
