if your lucky and find someone who has just used a standard mitsubishi hydraulic tensioner they come with a piece of wire thats strong too keep the tensioner centralised while fitting

Well it appears that we had over extended the tensioner. It was rubbing against the water pump. Pulled it all apart and started again and it is now fine. Just need to put it all back together. Cranked it over a few times and let it run no bad noises.
