hey guys,

i took my car to get the wheels aligned, and the guys said i have too much positive camber on the front of my car.

how do i change the camber on the front wheels of my CC lancer? Can I do it without getting camber-adjustable strut tops?
If i do need to get camber-adjustable strut-tops, can i keep my existing KYB excel-G's?

thanks for any help

You can just get yourself a set of camber bolts from Whiteline or Monroe as they both do the same job.

The Whiteline part number is #KCA412 and looks similar to this and should cost around $70-$80 for a set.

They will give you +/- 1.5degrees of camber.

Pretty easy install, but you will need another wheel alignment to set them properly and evenly.

get some lower camber bolts.. should be around 200 for the front pair.

You need to replace the upper hub bolts not the lower ones :D You only do both upper and lower to get like -3 deg front camber. A little excessive on a road car

thanx for the info guys.
so , before buying this kit i need to know how much camber my front wheels have?

is there a way of determining this without having to go to the tyre shop?

That's weird that your KYB's have too much positive camber if you havent done anything to them?? Some aftermarket coil over suspension have camber adjustment via an elongated bolt which you simply turn to adjust camber (similar to camber bolts above). Refer to pic below: see the big oval shape headed bolt in the middle of the screen? well you can turn that and it adjusts camber in and out.

Is there un-even wear on your tyres? Like excessive wear on the outside edge of the tyre?

Its really hard to tell by just looking at the car unless its severely exagerated.

Good news is its not necessary for you to know how much positive camber the car has at the moment as its not likely to be out by more than +1.5 degrees. One set of camber bolts will be more than sufficient to return the car to 0 or even give it some negative camber.

My car had +0.9 deg before, now it has -0.9deg after adjustment. At full negative on the bolts the car was -1.3deg, excessive for a road car and tyre longevity.

It changed the car from an understeery pig to like it was on rails. I am very happy with the results.

In regard to EVO-00X, I think it may just be a case or worn suspension parts and attachment points that cause the camber to be out that much. Mainly wear in the front wishbone bush and the standard shock mounts flexing out of place over time.

Camber is not good for tyre wear.

Taken directly from the Whiteline website :D

http://www.whiteline.com.au/default.asp?page=/faqsusp01.htm

But Toe and Castor also have an impact on tyre wear.
Notice how it says "camber isnt good for tyre wear"

but under toe it says
"Excessive amounts of either will adversely effect tyre wear."

:)

keep in mind
that depends how you drive

if you do all highway driving, yes, the negative or positive camber will wear the inside or outside of your tyres

if you have negative camber, and you drive in a 'sporty/brisk' manner, the tyres will wear evenly

if you're on the track the outside will wear out, with negative or positive camber

If your on a track with positive camber you won't get a chance to wear your tyres out as you will probably understeer into the kittylitter

worked fine for me

+1degree camber on both wheels
not by choice of course

there was slight understeer, but obviously i fixed that by not carrying as much speed into the corner
