hi my names cam and i'm from fnq and i'm looking to get into an evo soon. i currently have a r34 gtt with a few nice mods but due to baby a 2 door is a pain in the rectum. Haven't quite decide on a 7 or 8mr. i like the shape of the 7 but the 8 mr is kind of pulling me in that direction. so hi to everyone and hopefully i dont ask too many stipid questions:lol:

hey camo, welcome mate.

what are your plans for the car?

something stock that is quick as? a few light mods? or big modifications?

either way you can't really go wrong - both are awesome cars!

No need for a computer mate,
late model Evo Ecu's are just as good if not better than an aftermarket ECU.
And if your tuner knows what he is doing, they are simply reflashed and will control the car better than an aftermarket ecu would.
Theres a 3k saving to go to some more mods :)

If you choose a CT9A E7,8,8MR, or 9 there's only a few key elements to get them up to speed (Unlike the early gsr's)

Key elements for CT9A mods:

Hot side pipe,
Panel mesh air filter,
Electronic boost controller,
3"front pipe + cat back,
Reflash the ecu.

Transforms a CT9A brilliantly power wise and be reliable every day

the only reason i want power fc is that no one up here would know there arsehole from there armpit. I have a hard enough time with my 34. My mate tunes pfc's and he's pretty good. But can i send the stock computer away to get done or is it not 1 tune fits all ?

just an update. still trying to sell the the 34 , had a few dreamers and plenty of offers for swaps but no love. decided defo evo 8 mr. So if anyone knows of someone wanting a very clean 34 gtt with under 60,000kms for 24k ono let them know as i'm bustin to get started on a evo

Mate, in my opinion I wouldn't bother with an MR. Yes they are a great car BUT as soon as you put coilovers in a 7 or 8 and a MR or 9 turbo swap(both are inevitable) your at the same spot. Apart from black trim and lights. An MR adds an easy 9-12k on top of a JDM 8 GSR. Money that isn't justified in looks or power that you could easily spend on mods or baby crap.
I personally would go a 7 or 8 GSR. Well I just did opt for the JDM 8 GSR.

It's the same argument with the 6 GSR's or TME's. As soon as basic mods are done to the GSR it is faster and cheaper than the TME or the MR.

thanks for the info man. I thought the mr had brake and turbo upgrades and aluminium roof bonnet etc also ? correct me if i'm wrong . I can see where your coming from it's like a sti and a wrx:rolleyes: are mits turbo prone to blow up ?

Mitsu make strong Turbos. All Evo's have ally bonnets.
As I said, the MR has a slightly bigger turbo with titanium rear. It does have the Ally roof, but in the scheme of things where people usually put bigger/heavier wheels and stereo etc is that really needed/Justified?
Brakes are the same.
In fairness the WRX and STi are quite different.

I'll be putting a 9 Turbo on mine in a lil while, will see how much the stock VIII GSR turbo can put up with first.
They are all great cars. The only con of the MR is the extra $$$

its old news but, just wanted to clarify that the Ti turbo is not standard on the 8MR.

anyway i would say go the VII.... why cuz u can get them for 20-25k... lots less than 30-35k for an 8mr. the 8mr is most definately better car than the VII.... but u cant disregard the 10k from a VII.... just ensure the clutch is done on the VII... and u will be laughing to the bank.

btw i have had an 8mr for more than 3 years and never have i thought i made a bad decission to get it :)

Ti has always been an option.... the
VII got a 9.8 turbo... and a Ti exhaust turbine option from the RS
VIII GSR same as above
VIII MR, 10.5T turbo and a Ti exhaust turbine as an option from the RS... some people say its a 9.8T and some say its a 10.5T.
XI GSR (ADM included) got the 10.5T with a bigger compressor housing, and the RS gets a Ti turbine wheel and a MG compressor wheel (very hard to get the ver2 9RS turbos (1st version had faliours, and the Ver3 is the one as comes on the 9ADM GSR)
the IX MR (JDM) got a smaller turbine wheel.
