Hey guys, looking at doing the cams for the vr4 engine soon. Looking to get alot more mid to top end or just alot more top end out of it.

Anyway my question is, i dont have the spare $600 to $800 for 264's etc, that being said what is the most duration and lift i could get out of the cam from a regrind without going to the extent of welding the cam. Or has anyone tried the n/a cams? i got a set lying around. Or suggestions on what sort of grind would be best

Thanks guys :)

cheers for the link. That was $350 per set US dollars i also take it?

Also does anyone have stock cam specs for the intake and exhaust side

Hey hows it. Is REX ETR your plates?? Is so, they're choice!!!

When it comes to cams, you have to do it once, and properly.

Its been a long time coming but finally there's some cheaper options when it comes to cams for our cars. For years its either been HKS, or custom re-grinds.

DKS are basically HKS copies, and there's also crower cams that are also a whole lot cheaper than the ones coming out of japan.

Aftermarket valve springs aren't nessessary, but highly reccomended.

I got 20kw atw on 2 less psi on my old VR4 from 264/272 HKS items- trust me, the're worth every cent!!!

how about TOMEI...

I have seen a kit they do for CE9A which includes both cams and adjustable cam gears for around 1200 bucks. Both 260 duration...

anyone else seen that kit?

Hey Dre, going good here thanks bro. Yeah mate, those plates use to be owned by me, but they are now owned by my cousin on a pretty wild calais turbo :), i now have something a little more offensive

That sounds exellent mate, i was thinking 272/272 combo, as the vr4 motor is in my cordia and low down will just make more of a mess with wheel spin i think. Those DKS cams seem the bizz. Where are they avaliable from? i had a look at that site but it doesnt seem that they are based in australia? i dont mind paying about $600 or so, but cant justify $1200 at the moment

Btw love your car dre, alot has changed since the old forums i see! keep up the good work mate, deffinatly my fav vr4

madevo is running tomei 260's darren at AFAS did them maybe go talk to him....

mid to top end is really good with them

Cheers Grant-

Cheers for that madvr4. I went into camtec today and they can regrind me some cams but the cost is $199. They have camtec cams 272's and 264's for $320 each, so ill stick to them i think, cheap enough :)

Wow, that is cheap....

Yeah pretty happy with the price of it.

Ill let you guys know how they go, going for 272/272. Will be a good 2 months before they are tested with my bigger turbo, but ill let yas know.

Now off to catch my flight to sydney and get my car outta storage :D

I've got a couple cams coming my way shortly, and am going to upgrade my springs. Just wondering if it's necessary to upgrade the retainers as well??

yer camtech in sydney is good with those prices.. but then again $199 buys you a 'regrind' which means they will weld onto the camshaft you supply and then grind it down to spec..

camtech also offer a blank billet grind camshaft which they grind down to suit your application.,. however i dont know if these camshafts are 'zerod' like the HKS ones.. so id also be interested to see how you go with your results.

in regards to retainers.. you can run the factory ones.. im running factory ones with my HKS camshafts and performance spring valve springs.

Hey mate, you were saying you were going to put it on a cordia? I think thats what you were saying.

If so i beleive the 264/272 combo would be better for a cordia as you'll get power more gradually rather than all in one big hit later in the rev range with the 272's. With the big hit itll be more likely to make your wheels break traction and with gradual power.

But that being said, if you've got a big turbo the degree of camshaft wont matter as its gonna wheel spin like crazy anyway

Cheers,
Nick

Agreed,

I drove Toms (JET GSR) cordia with a pair of 272's and only a 16g on it, and it wanted to break free all the time.

And that was only @ 10psi.

Fun as hell tho hahaha
