hey guys,

im looking for coil overs and some other suspension goodies for my gsr wit vr4 eng and i liked the look of the whiteline coil overs with 'the works' kit but I emailed them and they said they no longer make the kits for CC GSRs~~

What are my option for coil over/sway bars/camber kits?

do coilovers made for evo 1,2 and 3 fit my car?

thnks.

Hmmm are you sure Whiteline dont make em anymore, they are a popular choice  Anyway, you can get Kings coil overs, Formula Fulcrum, HotBits, D2, K-Mac etc. There's plenty out there and yes EVO 1-3 coil overs will bolt into a GSR

Some coil overs like the Formula Fulcrum (what I have) have a built in camber adjuster on the side of them. Other than that you can adjust via coil over top hats like K-Mac supply.

K-Mac should also supply sway bars from memory but yeah, a shame about Whiteline not doing it anymore. They had all the nolathane bushes etc too

I just called whiteline and they decided that the do still do coilovers... some stoopid employee emailed me telling me they dont.

I have been recommended to the the D2 coilovers, anyone have any opinion on these?

I thought D2 coilovers were supposed to be shiiiiiat

get some hotbits ones, thats what ill prob be getting! 8)

I have been told that D2 are really really stiff, like way too stiff for normal road use. Heaps of Jap drift cars come over here with them fitted and most people pull them out, or replace them as they need re-conditioning regularly due to the valving.

I have only been in one GSR with Coilovers and they were the Tein ones with adjustable camber tops, and external bump & rebound adjustments. On soft setting it just felt really really good to drive, then crank it to full and it turned into a handling machine!!

I would wait for the Group 4 Whiteline coilovers to be available for the GSR, they are likely to be a good thing given their past products.

I've been in a car with the D2 'Race' coil overs and man my insides, eyes and brain hurt afterward. My friend didnt have them in his car for long let me tell you because it was so bumpy and dangerously skipping around corners, especially if the corners were a bit bumpy  Felt like driving on steel rims with no tyres and they wouldnt be the safest suspension in the wet  When they say 'Race' version they mean "Race"!!! They would be good for a smooth flat racetrack but on the road stay away from them as it was the worst ride I've ever been in. If you were to get the D2's make sure you get the street ones, not the race ones thats for sure.

 of course... but still too hard for the street and the ride was terrible. The fact he was running 18's with 35 series tyres didnt help the cause either so you can imagine how hard it would have been (like you're in a rollercoaster). He's gone back to lowered h/d springs and shocks and it still looks the same, doesnt handle like its on rails as before but it rides much better for the street :) When it comes down to it you gotta keep 'safety' the number one priority and bling and looks dont always mean 'better'

Mark, if Whiteline arent making the package anymore another option would be to contact one of the many Fulcrum distributers around http://www.fulcrumsuspensions.com.au/tein_performance_suspension_tein__superpro_suspension_kits.html . Recently they became a major TEIN supplier and are putting together handling kits to suit popular vehicles - they havent got one listed for GSR/EVO's on their website yet but Im pretty sure they will have one as they already have a CE package and already make all the bushings for GSR/EVO's  . It's pretty important to buy something servicable as well so its good to know that coilovers and bushings are available locally. Here's a link to their bushings page to see what's available for all CC Lancers/EVO and VR4's http://www.fulcrumsuspensions.com.au/fulcrumCat/

D2's website actually has a disclaimer about using their product on the street basicly a use at your own risk warning

one of my freinds has a set in his e39 vr4 and the car handles great albeit abit stiff as posted above, they are quite cheap especially here so how long they last is probably a concern,NZ's fastest vr4 uses D2 coilovers so they do perform well

I have a few mates running D2s here aswell, they love em. Ones a 4WD Mirage hatch (4G63'd of course), anothers a FWD Mirage Cyborg sedan (300kWs at the front wheels  ) another in an Evo 1

im thinking about a up grade on mine 2. how much are u look at with the d2 set up. and would u go a rear sway at the same time?

I run D2 coilovers in my EVO 3. I have 18" Wheels with 35 series rubber, and the ride is fantastic. Sure its harder than stock, but thats why i got them. The adjustability is great also. Ride is firm, yet very very smooth. Handles fantastic with them.

While it does feel alot more firm than my previous lowered suspension, I attribute that to going from 60 series tyres on 15" wheels, to 35 series on 18's.
