Hey guys

I have a VR4 engine in my GSR.

I want to change my VR4 engine mount to an EVO one. I know I need the bottom part of it that bolts to the block, and the other top half which bolts to the chassis.

My question is, What happens to the PS pump bracket once youve removed the VR4 mount from the front right of the engine? Is there another part I need in order to mount the PS pump back there?

cheers

dan

otherwise you can get a bit artisctic with an angle grinder and turn the VR4 mount into the evo one

or you can just buy the evo part from mitsubishi for a pretty penny im sure.........

Yeah man - thats the norm I thought when doing a VR4 conversion... as compared to a custom mount.

You need two separate pieces as sold my meek or from an evo - the top mount and the bracket.. They bolt together (both around $140 from meeks page)

You will find that the engine sits a bit higher though and the cam gear cover may foul on the bonnet.

In which case you can modify your bonnet... Think about it before you do it though as you will lose structural rigidity of the bonnet if you remove too much bracing..

Or you can go all out and get an evo bonnet which will clear the cam cover..

im not talking about the mount itself

im talking about the PS bracket, which happens to in turn be bolted to one of the L shape mount brackets

in that pic you can see that the two studs that stick up have been cut off cleanly.

does everyone see what im gettin at now?

I'm doing a VR4 engine into GSR conversion for a mate and we're using EVO engine mounts. Apart from the power steering mount GSRSOL is talking about above which we got from Meek, we also got the 2 x EVO engine mounts to use on the VR4 engine conversion. I struck 2 problems when doing the VR4 to EVO engine mount swap yesterday because it was not known/no one tells you that you also need the EVO water pump as well to put onto the VR4.

First, we had already purchased a brand new VR4 water pump, timing belt kit etc for the job and when the lower EVO mount with pulley was lined up to go on, the EVO mount has an extra eyelet up top that fouls on the waterpump. We had to grind this back in order to clear the waterpump and fit properly, plus then use the VR4 hydraulic tensioner arm on the lower EVO mount.

Second, when using the EVO 3 engine mount, the VR4 front timing cover wont go on, something else people dont tell you about, so we had to cut out the hole to shape larger to fit over the EVO 3 mount.

That was it, nothing major and not too difficult to do but a couple of things to know about before going into it

Yeah that, the shape of the hole where the mount sticks through is different :p

Spose so, but if you make the larger hole on the 1G the EVO engine mount covers most of the hole up anyhow
