When i go to get a new clutch does it matter if i have a 6 bolt or 7 bolt e.g. will the part number change from one to the other? Cos i dont know what i have. When i was on the exedy web site the part numbers were the same for the vr4 and evo 1-3

i want to make over 200 kw atw's so what clutch do you guys recommend and will the stock flywheel be ok to use?

As i said in the introduction its going to be a daily/track car

^^ Wrong. VR4 = 6 bolt
Evo1 - 3 = 7 bolt.

Thats what i thought thanks for clearing that up for me.
Would the same clutch go on both the 6 and 7 bolt?

Is there anyway of tell if i have the 6 or 7 bolt apart from taking the gearbox off?

Sure is... do you have a photo of your engine?
If its in a VR4, it will be a 6-bolt.

i believe clutches are the same, flywheels are the same just one extra bolt for the crank, vr4 and e 1-3 are all 225mm friction surfaces which will take the same clutch,

Thats right, you can use an EVO 1-3 clutch in a VR4, just not the flywheels. When you get your flywheel machined, make sure they also machine the step in it also.

Might also pay to check the condition of the clutch fork pivot ball, and replace the shifter bushes with some new ones.

*edit* 6666 posts? muhuhhahahahaha

Was thinking Exedy Heavy Duty Button Kit or Xtreme DCB Heavy duty clutch kit or there XC Xtra heavy duty clutch kit what do you think?
Will the Evo 3 flywheel still be ok to use with around 200-250kw after a machining of course?
What do you guys use in the way of clutchs?

I have an Exedy Heady Duty cushioned button in mine, it's quite nice, only shudders if you let the revs drop too low, easily holds a lowly 140kw at the wheels.

You won't know what condition it is in until you pull it out and inspect it. If it is in good condition, then it will not be a problem.

I have the same clutch, with 171kW @ wheels, has taken plenty of launches and even with the car running rwd and a couple of drift days (kicking the clutch every corner - maybe a couple of hundred times in a day) it's shown no sign of slipping.

It's pretty easy on the left leg too.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but unless someone has tried every different clutch that is out there, then we can only offer suggestions, we cannot tell you what is best.

I have only ever tried 4 different clutches in my vr4's and the current Exedy is the best to suit my application. A puck clutch is best for circuit work, but you may or may not be able to "live" with it for daily driving.

Exedy heavy duty cushioned button (HDCB suffix)

I have had a whole bunch of exedy clutches- 3 puk, 5-puk, and tons of full faced ones, and if you are contemplating over 250 genuine kw atw then at the minimum i'd be looking at a 3-puk, but ideally you should look into a twin plate. The last thing you want to do is replace it after only 5000kms- you're better off spending more on the clutch so it lasts longer.
