Clutch (or Gearbox) woes

Help Support 4GTuner:

Having a look at where the clutch fork is (as per below picture) can anyone tell me if the clutch fork looks bent?

Also, should I be able to move it by hand or not (given that the car is running a heavy duty pressure plate).
I noticed that there was a video on youtube from Jacks Transmission explaining how you can't adjust the master cylinder too far or the slave won't self adjust.
Could it possibly be that this is the problem (as after I got the mechanic to replace the master cylinder, the car changed gears fine for a while)?

+2 at MrGears post,

I'd also check correct fluid just to be sure & do the clutch adjustment take up proceedure as per the workshop manual

well it certainly looks bent from that pic lol.
pull the gearbox off and get it sorted. its xmas... you got holiday pay and time off work yes? lol
oh and buy a new slave cylinder as well from meek. that one looks shit.

well... I finally pulled the gearbox out... and found the culprit:

If you notice on the left, there is a piece of the clutch plate missing. That jammed up against the pressure plate fingers, which was why the clutch wasn't engaging....

Damn useless exedy clutch plate :fuuuuu:

Common occurrence right there..seen that happen on plenty of cars on here....usually the spring pops out and jams in between the fingers too, which happened to one of my previous cars.
Prick of a design...

I have a (probably stupid) question...
Can I get a clutch plate from a different manufacturer and use it with the exedy pressure plate (it is a standard heavy duty clutch)?
Or do I just have to buy another exedy clutch plate?

Yep, no worries. As long as it's similar diameter, same spline and not to far off in thickness, you will be fine.

If you are going for a sprung button clutch plate, you want less than 6 blades at they slip in top gear on boost.
I have been tempted by the ceramic full faced plates.

Also the button plates are harder than your pressure plate and flywheel. So if you slip the clutch, you will be shredding iron off the flywheel and the pressure plate. The buttons do not wear out, you replace the other more expensive parts.
