Done to death and i'm DOING IT AGAIN!

Target Power Holding: 250-300 AWKW.
Clutch type: Single Plate

Other parameters, Could care less.

Options? Prices? Places to buy it?

Need pressure plate, flywheel and clutch.

What did dre use?

I'm semi tempted to ring up that jim berry fella or whatever his name is in QLD.

Also thinking about another jonspec clutch. Matty's clutch makes weirdarse noises under deceleration that bother me. I'd be pulling my hair out.

dre had the 3puk and fidanza

i fried a exeedy race 3 puck clutch.. didnt last too long under my control lol.. however the one i get made up lasted about 200 odd runs down the strip.. majority being low 12 sec passes...

if i was in your shows lawrence id be looking at twin plate options.. with sprung centres not solid centres.. i can get those made up if u want one too.

there used to be a thread on here about that weird arse noise. Did anyone ever figure out what it was..

Ive got an Exedy H/D Single plate in mine, 40% xtra Clamp, and with the power that im expecting, should be around what your aiming for, ive been told that it will hold up.. we'll see.. ill let you know how it goes if you want..

That same cutch didnt hold more then 200kw in my car for about 2 weeks!

yep, a dampener plate that is usually on a clutch plate isnt there on these 3 puck clutches which makes all the chattering of the parts in the driveline audible, but makes the clutch plate stronger.

Os Giken. (you get what you pay for)

Custom? (you know why things are called custom?...no offence, but they are not usually of marketable quality. Otherwise they would be available 'off the shelf')
Think about it.

I won't touch an OS Giken clutch with a 40 foot fucking pole. I've seen three of them nuked in a previous vehicle (TT300zx, not mine) and don't think they're worth the fucking box they come in.

As for custom clutches, i'm sorry, what does jim berry make? Or rather, what clutches are used in say... the highest levels of motorsport? Do you -really- think they're off the shelf?

Thanks man, but i've got a fair bit of experience with so called "custom" clutches and i'm perfectly happy with how they turn out. Better than the fucking death rattling crap from a 3 puk or the complete inability to street drive a twin/triple plate.

Sorry, but thats hardly proof of anything. (there are many factors that cause component failure... I don't think that you are qualified to perform the analysis)

I would also like to know....as far as I can determine he is not a manufacturer of ISO ceretification (I don't think he makes anything.)
I think that he re-lines, re-surfaces and plays with spring rates on second hand assemblies.

Os Giken, Ogura, QuarterMaster?

I would really like somebody to explain to me how a custom clutch is better than a brand name clutch.
What qualities to you ask for when developing a custom clutch?
Clamp load?
Hub design?
Friction material?

With OEM style single plate clutches these parameters may be "customised" by the correct selection of "off the shelf" quality componentry.

Which is generally what a custom clutch is. A non-uniform selection of off the shelf componentry.

Mine is no different to the above statement.

Could you please share the details?

Clutches are one of the biggest selling items at Meek Automotive.
We want to offer our customers the best components available and are always keen to learn more about any products that we may not yet be aware of and appreciate any feedback from guys that have used them.
We know what we consider to be the ideal street/strip clucth (smooth and quiet operation, durable lining and sufficient clamp loading).
We have not yet found a manufacturer that can accomodate these requirements, but we can get very close with our own combo's.

For full race applications, I think the big Jap brand twin plates are the go (but you can't have your cake and eat it too...If you want it to be strong and hold the power, you can't expect it to be smooth and quiet)

If anyone has some technical knowledege on reworked OEM style clutches such as Jim Berry or others, please share with us.
ie; what is the clamp pressure?
Is the disc standard thickness?
Does the flywheel need a different step hieght?
Is the hub noisy?
Is the hub a of more robust design?

Can we discuss the different qualities of linings...organic, cerametallic and brass. Which would you prefer and why?

I'll give you the details of it when it arrives including any measurements that you want, even down to the funky colours they paint them.

But it's not arriving until Dec 2nd.

Genuine 3000LB not this 2400LB crap from Exeedy that when you put it on 2 other machines it reads 1800lb and 1900lb. I have had clutches made up to 3500lb clamping pressure.. these have held cars with around 280kw

Disc is standard thickness.
Flywheel has a 10 degree step
Hub is a 6 sprung 32 rivet centre
Hub is factory design just used with more rivets to hold it in place (ie for hard launches)

Ive used the 2400lb 3 puck race exeedy clutch.. i find it to be total crap.. it hasnt lasted in my car and i know of other high hp applications that it died very quickly in.

Why go for a custom job? It holds the power its cheaper then the exeedy 3 puck race which is RRP $950 and trade at $700.. the custom ones are RRP: $650
