My thrust bearing fried, and I'm thinking about changing clutches while the gearbox is out. What would you guys recommend as far as clutch kits go? I did a search for bearings and found some mixed responses, so I'd like to hear from you guys again! '89 facelift Jspec with 510s. Stock other than what's mentioned. I'm thinking something heavy duty, because I do like to give it a bit from time to time obviously, and a lot of double clutching goes on. But what kit would suit, and where is the best place to buy?

Thanks!

clutchnet, that 6 puck i had in my ggsr turbs was so good, very streetable IMO, held power very nicely and is v cheap from the states, im sure brisvr4 will back me up, unless his had some wierd failure??

Ive also got a clutchnet clutch but went the kevlar disk insted of 6puck with the idea it'd grab a tad softer when launched and save my drive axles. But thats just me. I have heard the 6pucks dont have as jolty pick up as some other 6 pucks.

Ive done lots of 6K launches and got 1.8 60fts at the track and its still going strong. and the feel of the pressure plate rocks:p (the 2X race one, 2500lb) softer than other 2100lb ones ive felt with great feel of the pick up. Better then the organic full face and heavy duty pressure plate that was in there before.

Release bearing, NSK.

when are you getting my cams in man???
oh and yer nsk release bearings are good, some say they are noisy but the 3 ive had have all been fine

Yeah my nsk release bearing is a little rattely after i beat on it at the drags but seems fine for now. i just ditched whatever came with my clutch and put the NSK one in.

And the cams!!! yeah i been working heaps lately and not had a week end for last 3 weeks, bought an LC1 wideband to check my afr's then next project is the cams lol need water pump and belts to put it all in:D

WRCVR4 has an exedy 6 or 5 puck button clutch for sale.
Pretty much brand new with a fidanza alloy flywheel.

All very low km's...

I'd go for that!!

pm him for info..

As for info, I've run an organic full face and a puck clutch and in all honesty, go for a button type puck clutch... They are not as forgiving BUT in time you will learn how to drive it.. Better to overrate the clutch IMO..

qft!

exedy's 5 puck ceramic job is pretty easy to get used to, and handles abuse like a good-un!

I've been recommended to use this clutch by the Engineering firm we use for work.

They will give me the kit for $420, what do yous think? I don't want it off the road for more than a week, so I think any clutches from the states are off. Anyone got a part number for the '6 puck clutch" from clutchnet? Come as a kit?

i'll be looking at a clutchnet for my next clutch, they're very nice.

the NSK bearings are the way to go, full metal unlike the cheaper ones which believe it or not have plastic bearing races.

the right type of plastic bearings are sometimesgraphite impregnated and self lube(like any good girl) so dont make any mess in the bell housing

the metal one would be more durable though and better for a street car

Exedy heavy duty is looking pretty good. Like Jon, I don't want my car off the road while I'm waiting for it to ship. I think I'll be ordering one to keep spare though, got a feeling I'll be doing some more work in the future on this car.

Check on the NSK bearing.

baz. Saw Troy last week and he tried to unload it on me! I'd rather go new though, plus I've already spent enough with him. :p

That clutch disc and pressure plate work out to AU$535 plus shipping plus thrust bearing. It looks very similar to the Exedy item, atleast if the Exedy item is shit I can let you all know :p

I'll just go with the Exedy item, my plain heavy duty has lasted 18 months of quite hard driving/launching so I imagine the button will hold up to quite a bit. If not I'll replace it when it dies.

yer but jon, back wen exchange was 95, me and tim got them for dirt cheap, and (forgot his name off top off head) was great to deal through and always answered emails etc.

jesse from revolution motorsports is his name.
I found the same thing, he actually wanted to know what i wanted out of the clutch and sent me like 3 big emails when i asked simple questuions he wrote novels and im normally the one writing big emails and replys.
even with the bad exchange rate (70c) my clutch wasnt expensive.
