I have just got a quote for a set of BC coilovers, Now im wondering what sort of spring rates are you guys running? These come with Front - 12kg and rears - 8kg.

It depends alot on the valving of the shocks.
My Hotbits came with 8/4's and I swapped the fronts with 6's as it gave the valving a much easier time and the valving/ spring combo "worked" better for what I wanted to do with the car.
Super hard springs are fine for circuit work but suck for everything else.
I sometimes wonder whether they use the super hard springs to help hide inadequate compression dampening.
But the real down side will be extremely limited suspension travel.
Assuming a VR4 weighs say 1400 kg, and 60% of that weight is on the front wheels, that's roughly 420kg per wheel, and with a 12kg/mm spring, that's only 35mm of compression on the spring. Or in other words, only 35mm of droop in the shock before the wheel leaves the ground.

12kg front & 8kg rear is pretty hard, i run BC coilovers in my turbo N13 pulsar for a daily, and it 6kg front & 4kg rear. N13 pulsar weighs 1030kgs. Firm but nice.

Honestly BC coilovers are awesome highly recommend them. fully rebuildable and steel lower mounts etc etc.

It's one of the few things I am reconsidering on my car. I am seriously thinking of ringing up the manufacturer and getting in 4/4 or even 4/2.

You have BC's don't you?
What is it about them that makes then need softer springs? Do you still pogo stick bounce down the road even when the valving is wound up full?
Is it that when you wind the valving up to the point where it actually "controls" the spring (to stop the pogo stick feeling) that it is just too firm and not complaint?
Do they have helper springs?

No helpers

and No, it doesn't bounce at all. It's beautifully controlled. It's simply the spring rates that make the ride nasty. Speedhumps are the -worst-. Stiff springs make your butt hurt.

That's the one thing where the MCA suspension in my rally car is brilliant. You feel all the small bumps/ ripples etc in the road, and then you see a big bump/ washout/ ditch etc coming up and when you hit it, it feels just like the little bumps do.
Spring rates are not hard, but not soft either, but everything just works as it should, and that it with the shocks set at almost full soft.
I much prefer an over damped setup than an over sprung one.

Lanka05 received his coilovers today with spring rates 7 front and 5 rear.

After the install we went for a drive. The spring rates do feel nice and it doesn't take much adjustment from soft for the shocks to control the springs which is nice. However, we would have preferred higher rates as the ride is softer than what we would have preferred.

All in All they are a Million times better than the shitty excel-g’s

Bc br coilover, 7-front 5-rear.

On the softest setting it roles around and feels like the excell g's maybe softer (far to soft). On stiffest setting it feels very much like an 05 STI, a little bumpy but nice and can take speed humps at 30 - 40k's fine.

If how it feels on click 32 (Maxed out) was the stiffness around Click 15 – 20 we would have been much happier as currently its just not enough for what we would like to do with the car.

For street these spring rates are fine however, I would not recommend them for someone looking into a bit or track and doesn’t mind I little bumpy ride.

So you want to compensate for insufficient dampening by using stiffer springs .
That will usually just result in less traction around bumpy corners and a nervous car that will move and twitch with every bump.

I only run 450lb and 350lb on the track but have dms 50s so the shock can control the spring no worries, I would not want any stiffer really, I have full rallairt bushes and a big rear sway bar though.
as rob has been saying the shock is what you need to worry about the most

Mine is 8kg 6kg, I run 16 clicks front and rear or approximately exactly halfway along the adjustment spec.

Also have swaybars, bushes, strut braces etc. Car is a bit nervous since going upto 225 width tyres from 205's. Can DEFINATELY feel the road better.

Won't go back to my kings, but still wish I had softer springs. I don't track my car anymore so more than happy to have softass daily suspension.

If anyone wants 8/6 BC spings and orders a new set, order in some 6/4's or something and I'll swap.

That's exactly what my car feels like coz the springs are way too hard.
It sits flat and handles well, no body roll, but a bumpy corner makes it all nervous.
Would be great on a smooth surface but on bumps it can scare ya.

Don't get me wrong mate we don't want them overly stiff to the point where it may compensate for insufficient dampening. Just a tad stiffer (maybe 8-9 fronts and 6-7 rear) would be nicer for what we want to do with the car as it would still be good for street on soft and better for some track work on stiff. Btw, Melbourne streets where this car gets driven on are quite nice unlike the streets of Sydney.

Anyhow I’m not here for an internet war. I just thought I would let people who might be interested in this product know how I went with them.

Imo 7-front and 5-rear is very nice for street driving. There is a very wide range for adjustment in dampening which allows the setup to feel from near standard to nice enough for some enthusiast driving.
