Those of you who have aftermarket computers....how many turns off the key is necessary to start ya bastard on cold starts?

I know there is only a small window of opportunity while the car is still stone cold to get the mixtures right but seriously...10 times is rediculous.

I am using microtech (LT10) as recommended by my tuner. Could it be the unit, the tuner or the downside of running aftermarket computers in general?

mine starts on the first turn of the key

but i have to open the throttle a bit because all the idle motors are removed

take it back to the tuners and get them to pay around with the cold start settings... cold starts can be 'tricky' to get right...

mine starts first time aswell

The Microtech is probably flooding it on turn-off, and then spits it out on turn-on. Are you blowing a lot of fuel out the back on startup? :)

Yes, it does blow out a small amount of fuel and black/blue smoke. I have had the tuner attempt to rectify the problem previously to no avail. If it's not a common problem, i might have to have it retuned elsewhere and have the bill sent to them.

do the cold start tune when the car is actually cold, ie. let it stay there overnight and first thing in the morning tune it.

My tuner has had my car for up to two weeks at a time performing other mods, so there has been plenty of opportunity to tune it while it is stone cold (he knows that). I have forked out thousands of dollars as well as being inconvenienced and in return I have received something that is totally unacceptable.

either...

a. ask if he can fix the cold start issue if possible.
b. go to another tuner to fix the cold start problem.
c. diy possibly?

Brad, try BoostWorx or Graham Wests.
I would suggest BoostWorx, as Dan got his Galant tuned by Graham Wests and was also unhappy.

One here too .. Haltech E8. Turn it on, it drives like a factory car straight away.

My old microtech started first time pretty much all the time too - it was just a lot rougher until it was warm. You can definitely get them tuned so the cold start is acceptable. Find a new tuner :)

hmmm... you just cant write off the tuner yet though. As mentioned just take it somewhere else to get a 2nd opinion.

find someone competent to tune your car, it sounds like competence might be your problem!

tuning the cold start just takes time and patience.

mine used to be shit, but after i took the car back for them to play with it more it starts like any normal car. (i have a wolf by the way)
