you have a gearbox,

you find it to be leaking oil,

you change both oil seals for the driveshafts thinking that is the problem,

gearbox still leaks...

i got under the car when it was leaking and found that none of the seals are leaking but it infact is weeping/leaking through the case of the box. it is on the driverside of the box below the oil seal and more towards the back of the car than the seal. if someone has and pics of the box i can circle roughly where it is leaking/weeping from...

this has me a little annoyed as when i bought the box it was sold to me as a newly rebuilt box that hadn't been used since the rebuild.

Here you go hope that helps:)

It was pretty dirty under there Craig, maybe it's just the overflow from when you refilled it? Perhaps degrease the area and inspect in a week or so?
Other than that, I agree with Tim on how he said to drain any excess oil, due to the fact it was refilled on an incline. You did say excess is expelled from the breather, and there's a breather right on top of that area you circled.
Dunno, just a thought.

Why was the gearbox rebuilt ?? That area of the gearbox typically cracks if say a tooth dropped off a gear, and subsequently passed down into the diff area. As there is minimal clearance there, the tooth jams and the case is the first thing to give.... it cracks and oil leaks out. Trying not to be a pessimist but carefully inspect for cracks. There is a reason for everything mechanical !

as above,

but if it has been rebuilt, there is also a dowel there, and getting the previous gasket sealant off the dowel can be a bit of fun. i am wagering it hasnt sealed properly from the last rebuild.

you *could* try, cleaning the join spotless with turps, the smearing RTV Ultra Grey over and past the join.

that *might* work. easier than stripping the box :)

oh, just having a stab here, was the box rebuilt because of a broken 3/4th selector fork?

just out of interest. :)

i don't know why the box was rebuilt, i cleaned it all whilst i was under it mahommed, and watched where the oil was coming from and it was dry above the circled area, deff wasn't from the breather.

will check for cracks and see what the go is

i have the same leak buddy....
i changed the seal in the pic, still bloody leaking..

not sure where it is comming from,

did you find that the seal was very loose to fit?
you could slide it in with your hands?

did u go genuine?

What ever it is Craig i really do hope that you won't have to pull the box out, cos that would be just a nightmare, since the car is almost ready:)

So as the guys said before just degrease it and clean it really good and then just look for any cracks.

And if you gonna put liquid steel make sure you let Tim do it as we all know he enjoys that and by now he would be the expert lol:)

Hey mate, that seal was pretty tight both coming out and putting new one in. Dunno about the left hand side though.

left hand side was also tight, it isn't from the seals, it is actually coming through the case, am going to clean it all up and cold weld that whole area on thursday morning.
