Hey guys, new to 4g. Daughter and i have a cc gsr project. Yesterday after givin it a bit we noticed a coolant leak.
After a closer look today we noticed its leaking from behing the crank pulley, probably pooling behind timing cover.
Is this a comman problem? anybody else had this issue and fixed it?

Water pump is in there. Nothing hard about fixing it. But you do need to get the timing belt off and on. Much easier with a long threaded rod/bolt to hold the tensioner. Needs to be all thread and same size as altenator tensioner (m6?) but bit longer (100mm longer). There is a plug in behind powersteer pump (accessible without removing pump. Screw long bolt into there to take the tension off the belt. Screw till it bottoms gently.
I think the aircon adjuster bolt is long enough but ive lots mine now...

Yep water pump id do the water pump and timing belt all thogether this way you know theyre both good for another 100 thouasand km

Jack, the thread is 8 x 1.25 if it's the same as a 4G63
thankyou.

Id have no problems patching it if you have that bolt. It makes it a 20min job to be into the front of the engine. Obviously check everything while you there and replace belt if you have no idea when it was done last.
thats if you doing it yourself, if a mechanic does it change it all.

thnx guys, mate come helped out, we changed out the pump.
everything else looks good. used a silicone gasket so fill up with coolant in morning and hopefully no more leak

I use a bike pump to pressurise system once its full of coolant. Just hold the pump against the overflow pipe and pump air through the radiator cap into the radiator. Go easy, squeezing pipe till its firm like a warm engine.
Visually check for leaks and put covers on if repair is good.
