Hi again, just have had a few problems with my car.

After driving around for a whole day I noticed the temp gauge creaping up slowly so i went to have a look under the bonnet & the coolent had gone into the over-flow bottle (Boiling)
I had the Radiator flushed & cleaned, they found out that it was over30% Blocked up!!! So thinking that it would fix it......No luck!!!
Did it again, slowly creaping up in heat, taken the cap off the radiator & it needed filling again.
So I brought a new thurmo-stat & Still no luck.
The thing is that it's over heating due to the fact that it has dumped a full bottle into the overflow & not leaving enough in the radiator to cool.....Then when it has cooled down it gets sucked back into the radiator.
The fans are all working and are turning on & the car doesn't blow any smoke/oil what so ever, hence compression being perfect.

What else could it be????
Could it be a stuffed cap OR pressure rating? (I have always had this cap when it was fine & is only 6months old)
The car doesn't leak any water on the ground at all.
I had a compression check done & it's all at 190psi. (VERY GOOD)
Thanks in advance.

What pressure rating do the EOM ones have? 0.9 bar? (Thats what i have now)
Also what would point to a stuffed water pump? thats about the only thing that i havent replaced and now realy keen to do.
Cheers. :)

are you running low on coolant? i remember my friends mitsu was overheating big time... and when we let it COMPLETELY cool down we opened up the radiator and it was almost empty on coolant

it turned out that the radiator hose joint (to the engine) was corroded and coolant was leaking/evaporating from there!!!
check it out, it will only take you 10 min ( take off the radiator hose, check, put it back on, done!)

Olly: Yeah all good levels with oil.

evopwr: I'm only running a little bit low, the only reason is that it's not loosing it, it's "Storing it" in the over-flow bottle.....When it cools down it sucks it back into the radiator & it good for another 1/2 a day or so.
Going to go back to the radiator place today to see what they can work out, got me stumpt. :? :?:

mine has been doing this for the last week.. my problem was that the fans werent coming on.. u sure your fans work? just check it and see..

Jon

my car is doing this atm aswell black e1 it'll boil an suck it back up u'll probably find that its just the radiator cap mines is hissing a lil wen u trurn it off wen its hot, just ckeep a keen eye on it i just havent gotton around to replacing it yet...
there is no other prob in my cooling system as i replaced the thermostat headgasket checked all my fans etc an its all good though my radiator itself is abit old an buggered which i believe compounds the problems a bit but change the cap it should come up trumps

p.s wear can i get an OEM mitsi cap from???

good luck dude

Hey mate, 1st thing I looked at...Yeah both fans are comming on with no probs.
I went back into the radiator place & they didn't know what it could be cause I have replaced just about the entire cooling system on the car. (All except the cap)
they gave me a new 1.1 bar cap & it's working so far, keeping the car nice & cool cause it's not dumping the coolent into the overflow bottle & keeping it in the radiator.
So after almost $200 It cost me $15 for a cap for (Hopefully) fix the problem, But hey it wont need doing for another 10 years or so now.
I'll keep you posted on how it going in the next few days, knowing my luck it'll still want to play up. :x

That new cap didn't work!!!!!!!!! :x  :x

it got to just above "Normal" temp (Have Never let it fully over heat) again & I turned off the car (left it running in the garage), AGAIN same deal....dumping out the coolent from the radiator to the over-flow leaving not enought coolent in the radiator to cool the engine.
It doesn't rise up very quick, but it still gets hotter than normal, even with BOTH fans turned on.
This is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! :?

I hate to instill fear into you's but something is pressurising ur cooling system.

Possibly engine gas...AKA Blown headgasket..unlikely but possible. How much boost have u had through your engine.

What percentage of coolant to water do u run?
And do you have a 88 degree celsius thermostat?

Try this.
-Get your car up to running temp.Pull the thermostat out and run the car without it.
If it overheats youve got a fluid loss prob.
If it dont id say its a flow problem or a thermostat related prob.

I have replaced the OEM EVO III thermostat (90deg) with a 82deg, didn't work.

I rang them up again after the cap didn't work & he seems to think that it's a head gasket problem, Altho the car has perfect compression in the cyls......But like you said it could be getting pressurised from the exhaust gas leaking into a water jackett. :(
Is it a big job to do change the head gasket your self, I've replaced a head gasket B4 but it was only on a Charade.
Do you keep all the manifolds on the head & lift it up that way?
I'm only running 15psi boost, it never spikes over that stays solid on that until red-line.

CLuTZ: Yeah the Air-con is fine, the fans turn on & doesn't seem to affect the cooling when it's on.

Before you rip things apart....

Go and get a TK gas test.
They put a rubber diaphragm on ut radiator neck,it has a blue fluid in it at the top of a tube,if the liquid goes yellow there is exhaust gas in the coolant.

aka blown head gasket

They done a "Combustion leak test" and say's something about colour change, showing a POSITIVE result for Exhaust gas is present.
Humm looks like it's new head gasket for me next week.
Still dont get it if my compression is 190 even......
Whats a good strong head gasket?
