ONE of two mechanics sacked after filming themselves hooning in an police car they were supposed to be servicing could face criminal charges.
A video of the stationary burnout has been posted on the YouTube website, where it has been viewed more than 3300 times since last month.
The footage has also been widely circulated via email.
The 30-second video clip shows the police car with its bonnet up and rear wheels burning so much rubber the workshop quickly fills with smoke, obscuring the car.
The incident was at a Southgate Holden service centre on Goldsmith Drive, Noarlunga in South Australia.
An SA Police spokeswoman yesterday said the car was in the workshop as part of a statewide agreement with a fleet management service.
Police were "finalising an investigation into the incident" which happened last October, she said.
Southgate Holden managing director Peter Altman yesterday said the two workers had been dismissed over the incident and a third employee, who has since left the company, was disciplined.
Mr Altman said one of the sacked men faced criminal charges.
The police spokeswoman would not say if any charges had been laid.
"The service provider has since taken their own action to deal with the incident," she said.
Mr Altman said he was disappointed the footage had gained an internet following.
