I'm looking into picking up come new cams and gears for my E1. Does anyone have any experience with Crower cams good, bad? I'm trying to decide between both of the stage 2 cams listed here. http://www.crower.com/cat/import/mitsu/cams/camshafts.shtml
any pro or cons, suggestions on which one I should probably looking at would be great. I'm planing on replacing my lifters, springs and retainers do any of these items need to be upgraded or will new e1 spec items work. My car is mostly a street car but will be seeing some track time as well. Also what are ppls thoughts on new cam gears i'm looking at these ones by unorthodox. http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/Itemdetail.aspx?PartID=250900402&Year=1992&Make=5&Model=81

is there a difference between crower and BC??

Yes, Crower cams was the original company and I believe Brian Crower was the son who went out on his own and started his own manufacturing?

were you able to use these cams on a stock valve train?

Really does depend on what your setup is, and where you want your powerband- no use running a 16g and 280/280's!

I am running BC 280/280 with a T61 turbonetics.....it all kicks in hard but takes a while. It idles at 1100/ 1200 and still has a good lope to it. i also did an evo 1 with BC 272/272 and a big 16g...it goes really well and can be made to idle almost flat...stock.

BC advise that you "need" change the valve springs for 280/280. I would do it on the 272/272 any way as well. lets face it your gonna rev it hard and the last thing you want is a tired old spring to let go.

What sort of timing did you run on this one?

will i be required to change my timing?

yes.....since the crank angle sensor is driven off the back of the inlet cam and needs to be removed to get the inlet cam out.

and the timing was at 5 dgrees advanced......but yours may be sweeter somwhere else.....so try different settings.

Care to give us a run down or some pointers to finding this 'sweet spot' not really something I want to tackle myself but would love to know what goes into it.
