Crower Camshafts - FYI

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

here is the next head fuck, the BC 272's are actually "lumpier" i.e. perform better than the HKS 272's

if i feel enthusiastic later on i may dig the dyno sheets out ;)

Yeah I was looking at the lift on the BC 272's as well and was gonna compare them to the HKS 272's  you beat me to it

I noticed on that forum about the Crowers that they also said this:

Oh the head wasnt even on the car when this happened... I put in the revised lifters after checking to make sure all of them were depressed, put rockers on, put the cam in the head an put an even 10-ft lbs on the cam caps, went to torque the caps down to 14 ft lbs and it made a small popping sound, at first it thought it was a rocker settling or something of that nature. then i noticed the cam looked weird so i pulled the cam caps back off and sure enough, broken. I inspect the cam only as far as i visually could, meaning i looked it over and then put it in. I ran 300 miles on it doing 7500rpm pulls with it. it's better that it broke now than while i was doing those pulls. that would have been a f*cking mess.

Although the metal composition of the cams does look a bit suspect with the inner and outer colouration of the camshaft, you cant rule out that perhaps even the way that they were installed could have contributed to the breakage as he was driving the car with at least one of the cams in it earlier without failure. I hope he was bolting the caps on little by little each at a time in sequence and starting over again and not bolt one fully down then the next in sequence and so on as this would place a lot of strain on the camshaft. Perhaps if we see another one from a 4G63 break or even if a few of them break then we can definitely say whether there is a problem or not :) It's early days yet...
