So I'm obsessed with Evo 9 Wagons at the moment to the point where I'm considering dragging my wife to Japan for a year to bring one home.

I couldn't find a thread on them yet so I figured I'd post some up here.

Yeah as far as info goes they aren't available for import via SEVS, and unless there is an absolute strike of luck it will never happen. They are too similar to Evo 9 sedans and Lancer wagons which are sold as full production cars here. Not different enough to be put on the list.

You still getting one Liberoz?

There's gotta be a few wrecked EVO 9's that would happily donate their parts to a Lancer wagon :) You'll need to see the underneath of a Lancer wagon first to check its capability for rear diff and driveshaft.

You would need the Cedia AWD shell as that's the easiest to convert one over a Aussie wagon base.

Done tonnes of home work on these over the last 4 years and I'll just keep what I'm getting up to for now ;)

In regards to the Japan 1 year relocation! I would be double checking that one bro or you may be there for longer than that to be eligible to bring one back in as a personal import.
Lets just say been there and researched that avenue and new laws here and there have all changed again for the worst I'm afraid.

They are very nice to rape btw.

As far as I am aware, 12 months is still the requirement..

Applicants must satisfy each of the following ownership requirements. You must:

  • own the vehicle when submitting the application; and
  • have acquired ownership of the vehicle from overseas; and
  • have owned the vehicle while overseas; and
  • have owned the vehicle for a continuous period of at least 12 months. This is the qualifying period. The qualifying period must have occurred immediately before you (permanently) arrived in Australia.

Are you referring to the fact that you are now only allowed to bring in one personal import at a time?

Applicants may only import one vehicle (under the Personal Imports Scheme) every 12 months.

Note. After 18 November 2010, applicants may only import one vehicle (under the Personal Imports Scheme) every 5 years.

Do. Want. Now.

Why is it they are so much better than the sedans? Is it because we cant have one?

Wagons are my favourite type of car. After my wife owning one for 3 years they are just too damn handy. Bikes in the back, dog, whenever you're moving house, etc.

The only problem is, all of the "performance" wagons are too big and heavy. My Stagea was a freaking boat. There are Caldina's, but they are ugly. There are Subaru hatches, but they are Subarus (and cost too much and are too slow). If I could get a CT9W it would be the perfect car for the family. Fun enough to do some fast hills runs and practical enough to drive to work and take on holidays.

I've looked into it more than you'd think. :D From memory the wiring is a piece of cake, you need one custom engine mount (and one from an Evo 4/5/6, and two from the Legnum), and the Legnum gearset slides straight into the Evo gearbox.

My memory is hazy about it all but from looking into it for a while it's a relatively simple job, especially considering other conversions that some have done in the past.

The real clincher for me is insurance and defects. I'm just over the hassles of owning anything too modified nowadays. I'm sure insurance would be a bit of a prick with a personal import, but the Police wouldn't be a problem if I had an Evo 9 Wagon with lowered springs, exhaust, chip and wheels.

4 cylinder legnum crossmember = win!

Next best thing anyway- the only Mitsi 4WD turbo wagon you can get here in Aus.... So lame!

Lets all move to NZ?
