Cutting out the rear outer guard

For a short term solution to my rear tyre size issue I want to cut out the rear outer inner guard section. My issue with clearance is on that side and when I took to it with a hammer the dents appeared under where the door closes. Is there any issue in cutting this part of the body out? Will it create a structural fault?

Its a double layer there. what is your long term solution?
Its not structural but why not just get smaller tyres.

Trying to get a 225 semi slick on the 7.5 inch rim as the 215's are to small. Also will allow me to run Hankook twin grooves.

As it closely matches the tyre shape there you will be removing a pretty big part to gain little clearance.
Maybe you could trim back from the lip and then fit some gti style flares. This would allow you to trim the lip and smash the outer out farther.
Im sure there is flare fitting guides on utube or somewhere that show how to gain clearance. but basically you shorten the outer and then beat the inner and repin it to the outer, glass up the holes and cover the mess with a flare kit.
Im sure dougmo would have some ideas of what is involved from before he made his hella rear 1/4s

Just take it to a panel beater with the wheels and tyres you want to run and pay them to make it fit!

Do what I've done and enrol in a sheetmetal panel fabrication course at the local TAFE and learn to make your own widebody steel panels.....
