OK, this has probably been done to death, but I can't find anything here specifically about this.. on GVR4.org they talk about GSR ECS holders being used as gauge pods. Now, I have been thinking about where to put gauges, firstly I saw a picture some guy posted (can't find it anymore though) where he mounted a 52mm boost gauge between the speedo and tacho.. hehe and the prosport boost gauges are 52mm, and they light up green at night.. and can be white during the day.. so yeah I suppose I'll hack the dash up for that..

But, the location of other gauges.. I don't really like to have them just sitting on the dash, it says "I am modded, please steal me for my many aftermarket parts".

This ECS pod seems mighty promising, but were they available on australian cars? Also, if someone has mounted one in their car, obviously the dash needs cutting, but is there lots of room for wires and junk behind there?

Cheers!

yer had the same problem with all that ages ago, i found one way of doin it but you would have to buy the same gauge holder the WRX's use in the centre garnish, from autobarn there like $150 and you still have to drill the holes...... i just gave up and did it the lazy way....... but yet again they stick out like dogs balls and tell every one your modded in some way............

ahaha i'm cheap just univeral ones there like $10 made of plastic, but upgrading to the Apexi cup holders soon soo they would look a lil better......

oh
i thought you meant one of these

ahahah yer saw those but look like shit on our dash, the one from the WRX resembles a smaller version of our actuall dash.... like a backwards bonnet scoup ya gets? something like in the pic just less curves, they fit all the Defi gauges and there freakin large asss so go nuts on the gauges......

yeah i know
but the problem is, its moulded to fit their dash

im pretty sure the rex gauges point straight forward also

No sh*t? That is freaking awesome info.. aha, I don't suppose anyone has the part number :)

Yeah, jayrome, that is exactly the look I am trying to avoid. Once your car gets broken into once.. eh.. never again. Plus, its something cops can see and say, hey, that isn't right. The ECS pod looks pretty stock, especially if I get those sweet tinted gauges.

Oh MAN I just had the sweetest idea! Haha.. how hard would it be to make the thing pop up like head lights? Hmm.. I need to cut up a dash and see how much room is in there.. oh theres probably enough because the ECS pod is recessed.. hmm... turn the car on, gauges pop up, then light up..

thought of that already, all the A/C sheit is back there and you would loose the centre vents to all the mechanics...... but in japan they got a VR4 with a auto LCD screne that pops out the top were the ECS comes from..... i'll look for the pik..... but last time i checked no space to fit sheit....

edit: found the pic.......

I suppose if I was going to dump the AC vents I would just put the gauges there. Good point, cheers.

The rex vent looks alright but as tharaka said, it probably wont fit properly. Why spend 130 bucks to cut something up.

that is custom

exatly my point $100+ on a peice of plastic, but i will see if i can get a cheaper one made up that copies the wrx ones to fit 3 gauges on our dash. i'll do a CAD of it with some copied dimensions and ask a friend if he can make some up, if all goes well i'll get a G/B going for them or just tell you were to get one if there close enough to what we want...... i'll get back to ya on that.....

Sweet.. we need to get our hands on one of the ECS pods then, as underneath the vinyl of the dash is mounting clips for the pod! It can actually CLIP IN instead of being PK screwed in like..uh.. the speaker pods in my zed were :p

Would it be expensive to get it trimmed in the same material as the dash?

ahahah let me look around first, but i'm pritty sure there are made ones, cause i really cbf with the CAD system gave me a head ache in uni, but i'll check out all the places in melb for some and i'll take some photos, cause i also want one, as theres too much attention to my car atm wana go stealth..... i'll get back to you guys on this...... if i cbf driving round vic again.......

Haha.. yeah thats cool, it would be a bastard to draw one up, I understand.. I'll call mitsubishi tomorrow and see whether or not the GSR pods are 30 bucks.. if they are I might just go ahead and get one hehe

cools and i shall update this if i come past any good looking and fitting ones..........
