Heys,

Im about to put my head back on my motor etc.. was going to put my adjustable cam gars on the car cos i have hks 264/264 camshafts.

Just wondering if you have done this.. what is the most optimal setting on the cam gears? intake at zero and exhaust at 4 retarded?

Anyone ever played around with cam gears?

Jon

Sorry to Hi Jack

Was just going to post similar however I've just installed Cam Gears but still running stock cams on my Evo III motor so any help for me would also be appreciated.

from dsmtuner.com

Advancing Intake and Exhaust: This will provide the car with more bottom end power, and will decrease top end. Advancing both cam gears will move overlap earlier but will not increase it.

Retarding Intake and Exhaust: This will increase the cars top end, but will decrease low end. Retarding both cam gears will move the overlap later and but will not change the amount of overlap.

Advance Exhaust Only: This will help the cars top end, and it reduces overlap.

Retard Exhaust only: This will help the cars mid range power, very useful for cars with big turbos / big cams. By increasing overlap, It decreases lag significantly. Doing this will bring the boost on all at once.

Advance Intake only: This will increase overlap and helps the cars bottom end and mid range power. This mod will bring the turbo on all at once.

To dial them in properly - You need to do it with a degree wheel and with the help of a Dyno.

Will be spot on then.

If you are not doing it on a dyno, you can download engine software which lets you enter the cam specs and play around with the timing and it will show you the theoretical power curves. Be sure to measure your cams first, don't just go by the specs. We found in a toyota rally car that the cam differed slightly from the specs and were able to adjust the timing to better suit the cam. We would have lost a small amount of driveability had we just relied on the specs supplied with the cam.
