Did 17'' Oz Chronos come standard on the evo 3s

Help Support 4GTuner:

hahaha... 17" Oz Chronos on EVO III's is another myth people have bullshitted about over the years :)

Hard to say Dre as I still havent found any solid evidence that EVO's came off the sowroom floor with 16" wheels to date. What I have found though was a 16" wheel option for the CD9A and CE9A EVO on the FIA Homologation papers only (so considered an option for motorsport use). Every other reference to the EVO wheel diameter in the FIA document states 15" wheel. Even the photos of the EVO III all show 15" wheels.

To weigh in to this one Rob... those posts that we see on almost every forum telling us about the history of the evo sometimes post a steel wheel option (15x7j). If only the internets was always right (or the damn placard showed this)...

http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_showmodel.php?=Compare&id1=6&id2=4 <- 15x6.5j Alloy (15x7j Steel)

Most of the EVO I-III Oz Racing wheels I've seen have only been 15x6" as thats all I've seen on imports and written on tyre placards. I have however seen pics of 16x6.5" OZ alloy wheels that have been claimed to be an EVO option too. Lack of clear evidence sucks as it would be great to confirm the 100% truth -_-

BUT, the EVO RS's definitely did come out with a steel wheels as per the EVO I-III sales brochures and as pictured and shown in the FIA homologation papers.

Looking at the papers a bit more a short time ago the pics of the steel wheels on the EVO comes directly after the mention of the 16" wheel option. Later in the document there is reference to 15" wheels then followed by pics of the EVO with 15" alloy wheels.

This may very well be the elusive 16" wheel option that has gotten people's wires crossed over the years???. Has anybody ever had a steel RS wheel from an EVO I-III to confirm if it is was a 15 or 16" size?

Pics below from the H papers and brochures of EVO I and II; followed by pics of the kind of wheels that people have claimed to be an EVO 16x6.5" option:

I've come across a set of the 17" OZ racing wheels before (Couldn't afford them at the time dammit). Where on an Evo III a guy had brought in to part out. Whether these were standard or not is anyones guess, but the guy who had imported several Evo IIIs said he'd seen them a few times and reckoned they were an option.

Also, the RS 'steelies' are actually pressed alloy, have a mate here in NZ keen on a set if anyone knows of any.

Steel is an alloy.
The wheels can be or not be magnetic depending on what the steel was alloyed with Ie, the level of nickel etc..
As far as i knew, the standard E III wheel was the same wheel the Evo II's had, and the option was a 15x6 O.Z chrono +46
