Difference between whole new ECU and piggy back?

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

OK, the reason I ask this is because I'm not sure which type of ECU is worth getting when I upgrade my car. My current mods are a FMIC, Air filter, turbo back exhaust and a BOV. My intention is to add bigger injectors and fuel pump and a boost controller which should be good for about 240awkw (apparently). Is it worth stepping up to a whole new ECU such as this http://www.haltech.com/e11v2.htm? Or would it just be a waste of money?

PS: no intentions on using bigger turbos or trying to build a monster engine.

The guys in the states have had some amazing reults from these cars, with relatively low amount of mods. Check out some of their forums

Here's one to start off with- try searching for eprom or chipped ecu

Try reading rather than posting question waiting for answers you'll be surprised how much more you will learn ;)

completely a waste of money for what you want to achieve.

well considering ill read a long thread to do with my questions and not finding what im looking for and posting a question at the end of that thread, i feel my statement above is justified.

You will find being a total noob to a new site not all questions are just answered straight away I know its a clicky thing that happens with new comers but it does happen is all.

I wish you all the luck and if you have just joined give it some time and be involved read comment more and more as you become an active participant of the site the Q's you ask do get answered as the rest of the community warms up to a new comer, sad but true.

Maybe chip the ECU? opposed to piggy back or replacement..

You can get custom written ones from the like of Dr Drift, or get something like a DSMLink.

The Yanks have gotten some awesome results with DSMLink, Ostritch etc which are just factory socketed ECU's with a chip. This might be the other way to go.

Dont think those will work with my car. Was going to get the Haltech interceptor in the first place but i read about a guy with the exact same mods im looking at with a whole new haltech ecu and he was saying how good it was, although that post was written quite a while ago before the interceptor ECU was released. I just wanted to know what the difference between the 2 was. So thankyou everyone, i have my answer.
