Dip stick shooting out?

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

fairly, it means your leaking compression out of the cylinder, past the
rings and into the crankcase which builds pressure in there causing the
dipstick to pop out.

as baz said though it could be the lack of decent breaters on these motors.

or a shitty seal on you dipstick too.

or all of the above.

Yeah.

Or your dipstick seal could be munted and need replacing. It's a rubber oring basically.

Crushing your dipstick pipe or adding a spring is a stopgap measure. Comp test should show if there's issues with the rings sealing.

If comp test is ok, add a crankcase breather somewhere.

Yeah, I just put a small hose clamp on my dip stick tube to attach a twist tie with, and used the twist tie to hold the dip stick in place.

Total cost: less than $0.01 (I scavenged the clamp from a Laser TX3 front cut that I bought for $1,500 and parted out for over $2,500).

Bling factor: 0.01 out of 10:thumbsdown:

Practicality factor: 10 out of 10  (except that my Evo 3 has never spat its dip stick ever, so it really wasn't necessary; just cheap insurance I guess).

Of course, I could have spent $99 (or $68 on special) but I preferred the less than $0.01 cost.

Read the link; I laughed so hard that I would have wet myself if I had dodgy pelvic floor muscles.

$99 ffs! Even $68 is way too much. All these guys falling over themselves to buy this item; surely with a couple of brain cells and an ounce of ingenuity they could have saved themselves the money?

I really should post up a DIY with photos of my solution on that forum and embarrass a few people.

cheers,

Peter D

Yeah, I couldn't stop myself from posting a tongue in cheek DIY on that other forum.

I mean, for god's sake! Why would anyone with half a brain want to spend $99 on making sure that their dip stick doesn't projectile vomit out of their engine block?

Personally, I think that my solution is also over engineered. I could have used two twist ties; one to wrap around the dip stick tube and retain the other twist tie and the other to retain the dip stick.

cheers,

Peter D

Good stuff mate, im sure people will appreciate it.

I added, if people wanted a spring on there, they can be bought from repco or supercheap for a few bucks.
They are hanging on the 'champion' brand bolt stand.

So for well under 10 bucks you can have a shiney new clamp and spring on there:thumbsup:

hey ricey, not tryin to be rude mate, but did you use those twist ties out of a packet freezer bags? :p

If so prob not a good idea around the heat the plastic coating will melt. And, i recon it looks dodgy lol.
Wouldnt some thin wire be better, and look a bit better or just use a spring.

Cheers. I dont mind that at all actually. Simple, does the job and it looks good which is a plus if you have a tidy engine bay.
Who is selling them for $99? -_- You could make one up for a fraction of that price as it's a simple enough design.

:w00t::w00t::w00t: mmm..i think i brought this up on the other forum also and stirred the pigeons right up!!:w00t::w00t: maybe my suggestion isnt so silly after all,as it is plainly obvious that the wire is piss thin and plastic will eventually melt...
Stop stealing my suggestions milkandoj!!!!!!!!:lol::lol:
