Does anyone know if those (1G Awd eclipse laser downpipe's) they sell dime a dozen on USA sites and e-bay will fit OK to a Vr4 with a Evo 3 O2 housing. Can anyone recommend a brand of downpipe or is a costly custom downpipe the only option., What about cat's (i heard 5L commodore cat works good)

Nope. Your oil filter and centremember will get in the way, here you'll have to get a vr4 specific downpipe or get one custom made.

A full custom 3inch exhaust should set you back around 1000 dollars. Make sure you get it flanged regularly so it's not a single piece.

So would it be safe to assume an off the shelf cat back would fit a 1G down pipe?
I'm thinking Fujitsubo

Assumption is the mother of all evil.

1g downpipes will fit... if you have a remote oil filter. Or you can kiss your hands goodbye trying to get the damned thing on or off. IE: Nonissue for my vr4.

Cat backs are designed to bolt upto front pipes but WHERE. Where did they flange the front pipe they made the original template off?

The 1G has the same engine...

Infact, it even has the water cooler sandwich in between the filter housing and filter, so it sticks out even more than a jap VR4 would..

I don't see why you'd need a remote oil filter to fit a 1g downpipe.

ask this same question gvr4.org, they will tell you that it fits

He is talking about the front pipe between the dump the the cat.
It will fit but the evo3 dump pipe will put it right over against your transfer case.
It would be easier to just get a new front pipe made up. Should only cost around $250 or so for a 3 inch unit.

That's what Taco and I are talking about too

The Evo 3 dump pipe has a different angle on the flange that connects it to the front pipe though

which is what lorrie is talking about i think

so, a 1g front pipe, wont fit properly onto a evo3/2g dump pipe

Bah now I feel like a knob. I thought VR4/EVO dumps were identical mount wise...

Perhaps I'll just find someone who can modify my current exhaust; keeping the flow while cutting the sound. The search continues...

Get a full 3" straight through made up

and then get two good quality oval mufflers (magnaflow?) flanged in there, so they can be removed if you want more noise

i think the reason you have a loud exhaust is because you have a canon at the back

Thanks for the help guys, its hard to find Vr4 info, local turbo mechanic's don't no shit, there all skyline and rexie specalists though.

I'l be lookin into a custom downpipe.

The Evo 3 O2 housing does have a different angle, but heaps bigger internals 2.5inch opening to turbo and 2.2inch to downpipe.

Not 2.5" all the way through like i was led to believe. Although looks portable.

Cheer's, Adam.

PS i ve got another question in relation to Evo 3 turbo fittings.
