Hey guys, wanting to give my HSG a couple of runs on a dyno to check afr's and other tuning essentials and get a base power figure.
Wondering what 4x4 dyno operator in the melb area has good experience with the 4g63. I'm not massively mechanically minded and want someone i can trust with my pride and joy.
Heard too many dyno horror stories so want to be sure before i book in to some random joint.
Thanks, SW

where abouts in melb are you?

i don't know their experience with the 4g63, but having been to a few different places over the last couple years, i would be taking it to JPC. I have been very happy with their work, and so far are the only place that i have been to that i would let touch any of my cars in future.
pretty sure they don't have a 4wd dyno, but was told they use creatd's.

Thanks Oggy. JPC have a good rep, a little too far from me though. Will give them a buzz if i'm struggling and see if they're keen (re. sound interested, as most performance shops don't seem to give a shit unless you're dropping major $$ down...)

Where abouts in Melb are you?
Springy motors in the South East
Chasers Motorsport out West
Creatd Motorsport up north.

Most places will take you car off the dyno if they notice something unusual in the way it runs or for example if there is detonation and/or lean out. But, you always run the risk of something going wrong as you do every time you give the car some stick.

If you cant risk it! don't bother chucking her on. A wideband can give you realtime AFR's as you drive on the street. no base figure though.

+1

And lets not forget RE customs. I have seen this workshop pull cars off the dyno before as they where running lean and im sure all of the above would do the same.

I dont see how if the car is running badly (i.e pinging or lean) the dyno is goin to kill it? If it hasnt died on the street.
Unless the load is more than the car gets on the steet making it ping more?

Or are these "horror stories" more about bad tuners blowing a motor up, not people doing a power run.

Cheers guys, got a contact highly recommending Springy motors, which happens to be close to home as a bonus. Had a good look at their website and looks to be a stand-up workshop.

The horror stories consist of gun-hoe 'tuners' who push the envelope a little too far and then take no responsibility when something goes bang....thats all.

I'm not expecting this to happen on my almost stock 4g even if the worst tuner got his hands on it as there is nothing he can do to lean on the motor....it'll just be a general diagnosis of af mixtures and a base power figure ;-)

But it helps when they know a particular motor well (i feel more comfortable that way), as they have background knowledge of how things should be running and how things should go when i decide to go further with some mods.

Well baz trusts springy with his beasts. Enough said!
yeah there are some useless workshops around amongst the good ones.

What type of ECU do you have? stock or aftermarket?

Springy motors, RE customs & CREATD all have AWD dynos and have extensive 4g63 experience.

There's no need for multiple threads mate- if you want something moved in the future, don't be afraid to ask :)
