Its pretty stupid engine change really... the Lancer MX saloon originally came out with a few different engines...
CB1A - 1.3 4G13 SOHC Carby
CB3A, CD3A - 1.5 4G91 DOHC Carby & 1.5 4G91 DOHC EFI
CB8A, CD8A - 2.0 4D68T Deisel Turbo
CB6A - 1.6 6A10 Quad Cam V6
The one listed came out with the 4G91 1.5 DOHC, you can still see the sticker on the doors.. and you can see the top filter box aint long enough to bolt into the SOHC tappet cover
The 1.5 engines that would have originally been it it would look like either 1 of these
