well i sold the car,
all i can say is what a head ache!!!
only owned the car for 3 months and that was enough
dont get me wrong the car was a joy to drive when it was running right
BUT!!!
yes but...
first head ache.. comming home on a little back road and i spotted a new pontiac that wanted to play...
so i got in to it
5ks down the road after the play... i dropped a cyl..
first i thought i might of fried a plug or dead coil pack.. but with no luck
got the car towed home and pulled it apart
thought i might of done a head gasket...
pulled the motor apart, looked at the head gasket and yep blew a hole between 3 and 4
thought yep sweet new head gasket and im back on the road..
no such luck, flipped the head over and had melted a chunk out of the head, right between 3 and 4
...
so the drama started trying to track down another head and trying to find one at a reasonable price
had to get one 300k's from home
ok car back together and all running sweet...
dropped the boost down to 8psi and only ran bp ultimate fuel... every second tank i threw in a octane boost, never let the car get below 1/4 of a tank
THEN!!!!! a month later
went out in the morning to warm up the car
turned the key and smoke poured out of the catch can and exhaust
WTF!!!
checked oil levels, coolant levels
checked all the intercooler pipes for oil..
all fine
lifter the oil cap and had major blow by f**k!!!
thought ok... maybe the oils a bit thin, so did a oil change
that seem to slow it down a bit
took the car for a drive no loss in power seemed to be idling and running all right
had to head into town
baby'd the car... stayed out of boost... low revs
on the way home, the car dropped another cyl..
f**k... hoping to be just a head gasket.
pulled the motor down again and no luck...
number 4 piston had a hole in it and the only thing keeping the piston together was the rings
the hole side of the piston was cracked into two pieces
went and saw the local engine rebuilder and his exact words were f**k!! in the 20 years of building motors ive never seen that happen!!!
he couldnt track down a piston... NONE in australia..
went to the mitsubishi dealer.. they could get me one but would be a 3 month wait, had to come from japan..
rang around wrecking yards and motor rebuilders in a 400k radius with no luck
had to buy a complete engine to get the parts i wanted...
long story short... got the car up and running again... but i had enough..
what would be the next thing to go?!?!
even know the car drove nice and had plenty of power.. it had to go
contacted a car yard in melbourne, they had a car i was looking for and was willing to do a deal
i traded the car in and the head ache is now gone
