The Engine Check light came on for about 20 seconds on my car this arvo. I noticed it and was looking for an opp to pull over (was on the freeway) when it went off. I kept going and watched it, not pushing the car at all (no boost) and it didn't come back on.

What's usually the first thing you do if/when the Engine Check light comes on?

You guys prob know the specs of my car - but I've got a chipped E2 ECU.

is it just me or does dre have a faint obsession with dataloggers? :p

lol, its saved me numerous times- I dont know why everyone doesnt have one! Its a necessity!

They recently worked on your exhaust didnt they? did they unplug the 02 sensor when they did the welding and forgot to plug it back in?

Also, can someone please PM me the models the dataloggers are compatible with? because I've tried on an EVO I and a Auspec GSR series II but it didnt work on the EVO and GSR series II has a different diagnostics plug in it

Yeah the facelift GSR's are different- I always thought that logging on an EVO 1-3 was fine though, as they are pre-OBD-II. perhaps you need to install it directly to the wires on your ECU?

we tried using the data logger on my car but it wont read.. i got evo dash, room, engine looms, evo ecu and evo engine :?

I've got an Auspec GSR, Evo Motor, Chipped GSR computer, and my datalogger works fine.

Also, ENGINR remove the airflow sensor plug, give it a clean and make sure its on tight. I had the same thing happen to me once, and this was the fault.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at it all today if I have a chance. They did some welding on the exhaust but the section that the muffler is welded to (we didn't use the flange that's on the muffler - too messy) we unbolted completely from the car. He had a surge protector on the battery too (just in case - the guy was careful - very impressed!)

I think it could be the O2 sensor, my car is running too rich and I reckon I might have fouled it up. I'm actually arranging to trailer the car up to MEEK with a couple of mates to have him tune it for me and give it a run over.

Too easy.Make a error code reader. An alligator clip soldered on to a wire then a LED soldered on to other end of the wire wire soldered on to other side of LED then another length of wire to a alligator clip.Clip one end to the diagnostic port and other end to earth.Turn on ignition and count the flash's.Long flash are tens short flashes are units.Eg two long flashes and two short is error code 22.Which is the Crankshaft position sensor. If you haven't disconnected the battery the error code "should" be still in memory.

I hard wired one into my car and used it last night.Engine check light come on.Checked my reader and got an error code of 12 which is the MAF went straight to the MAF and had a loose plug.No friggin around in the dark.Check this out.

You can use a laptop through a serial interface, however i was told that is too slow if you plan on doing any datalogging. For fault codes it would be fine.
