AFAIK, it was just a bad batch of fuel. Hopefully there isn't another repeat performance as I can't afford too many more $8,000 rebuilds!

Probably yet another reason to run lower boost around the streets aye

Well you think if a car is tuned on 98, say a bad batch of fuel can put the OR down to 92/93 if your not listening for pinging and your hammering it....good bye engine.

That level of boost is fine, just a good tune and good fuel is vital.

haha. i give up/in. Tis true. I think maybe eventually I hope to get a performance tune for 98, and a safe tune also for 98 but allowing for shitty fuel, as (I) never know what's in it any more.

there was a thing on a current afair or today tonight quite a while ago about bp some bp's servos in nsw selling the premium 95 thru the ultimate 98 pumps to make some extra $$$... most people it wouldnt matter at all.. just use a bit more fuel... but in the case of a high performance motor.. nasty nasty...

pity you cant buy avgas easily... they wouldnt dare mix it with lower grade fuel.. if a plane went down cause of it they would be screwed.. even if it is a bit dearer peace of mind and the fact that you have to use alot of fuel before it costs you more than 8K

I purchased about 20 bottles of octane booster. Each time I fill up I always add a bottle.

I also have a knock link and wideband o2 to monitor for any bad fuel / problems... Very good investment if you ask me..

I run a mix of water / Methanol injection to keep mine safe.
And I monitor everything with a logger and wideband!
