Hi everyone, managed to pik up a gsr a few weeks back and keen to get an engine swap. I have picked up another second hand 4G93T engine already and just wanted to know if there are any precautions or things I should do before the engine swap?

Also as I'm heaps busy with uni and work I am considering getting a workshop to fit it for me... What's a reasonable price I would be looking at if I went this way?

Lastly...is there anyone in Adelaide who may be keen in doing this engine swap for $$$? Name a price and I will consider :D

thanks heaps

Do I have to do any changes if I put a 63 engine in? (gearbox or brakes etc?) also would I have to buy a long or short engine?

Definately be going the 63 if your gonna do the swap... If you can find one, a front cut is the go... It has all the bits and pieces you will need on it, then sell the rest off and make a few bucks back!

doing a 63 swap will most likely get you an engine with fewer kms on it.......unless you can find a low km jap 93. Most Aussie 93 engines are very high kms now as they around the 15 year old mark now. But having a 63 put in is not as direct a swap as simply replacing the existing engine. there thing such as exhaust changes to match the different position of the turbo, rewire the alternator because it swaps sides, the original aircond lines from the 93 don't fit the 63 because it swaps sides so new ones need to be made......plus few other bits and pieces. so while it will "bolt up" ......its not a question of drive it into the shed and drive it out 4 hrs later. So labour will be higher by a fair bit if you choose to go the 63 way. its a great conversion tho and well worth the effort.

if your budget is tight then stick with you used 93 but think about doing lifters, a water pump, timing belt and tensioners as well as front and rear main seals while it is out of the car......much easier than while it is in the car and these a likely areas of problem on a used engine that hasn't been run for a while.

I rekon I may just stick to the engine I have here (unless I find a half cut within budget haha). Thanks for the tips Brian, very useful to know :D

The 93T engine in the car now currently is around the 290k mark (leaking fair amount of oil etc) and I was told the one I bought cheap has 130k (but hasn't been run for a good 3 years and I have noticed some rust around some areas of the bottom around the clutch etc) Would these issues be a major concern?

Haven't done a swap in a while :D got an engine crane and everything just need time.... Haha

Yep, Brians on the money!! BUT- If you can afford it, go the 63... You won't regret the decision!

I agree 100%......63 but do your homework and make sure you can afford to finish it properly. nothing makes you want to get rid of a car more than one that is unreliable

^And I agree with you 100% on that!! You definately need the follow up funds to finish it off in one go.. The longer it drags on, the more frustrating it would be!
