4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Steve Rekons (without looking at it) that an exhaust valve is bent open, needs a new head maybe, $600-1000 =S

I'd get the belt put on properly first and go from there.
I've got a complete head, and can do the job. Was his $600-1000 incl. the head?

ouch that is a costly mistake for letting your 'apprentice mechanic' mate work on the car!!

Jon

oooh 600 to a grand is very costly.. i doubt it though, jon has a complete one and so do i, we definately wouldnt be chasing 600 for it (nice avatar jon ahah!!)

why would it be bent exhaust valve if its driving fine and only making funny noise at around 3500-4000k?

you can always rebuild your head for around 400 including new valves (both intake n exhaust)
and just add labour to it for flicking the head off and putting it back on :D

where do you live?

yer i don't know why it would only be making funny noises at 3500-4000rpm if it had ebnt a valve the noise should be there constant.

if the balance shaft isn't right that could make funny noises at a certain rev range?

and for the price of doing the job 600-2k sounds reasonable just remember machining a head alone is like $200 and then if its bent a valve it might have done damage too the valve guid thats another couple of hundred dollars and then labour wat thats like another 500 there it all adds up.

yer price included head, i live in Stirling, and we had another look today.. looks like the exhaust manifold is leaking, turbo is getting 'blowback' and sounds like bov/plumback isn't working properly, i think it just needs a tune, new manifold gasket, and needs new turbo seals (running a TD05H), then should run fine... fingers crossed!
ne1 who wants to come have a look and give an opinion is more than welcome!
cheers Antony

Fuck driving upto Stirling to give my opinion lol. Although I wouldn't bother rebuilding a 14b chuck an ok cond S16g or even a B16g on it. The stock VR4 mani's are way past their prime, most stock ones are cracked now, so more than likely it is your manifold. Upgrade to a GT pumps mani (www.gtpumps.com.au) great product, very happy with mine. And unless you have aftermarket ECU there isn't any tuning to do as such, apart from a full service (oils incl. Driveline, filters for oil, air and fuel, plugs, leads etc)

cheers for that info, im fair sure my manifold isn't stock tho, may be some gay ebay one tho, theres a pic of it in my introduction thread

so the evo 3 vr4 bolt on from gt pumps will flow better than my labyrinth of pipes? how much should i pay for a s16g or a b15g...
cheers Antony

300 maybe for a okish s16g. Expect to pay a bit more for a MHI B16g, especially one that isn't gonna die in 2 months. I have no doubt that the Ebay crap manifold flows well, just very poorly made. GT pumps mani is based on an Evo3 manifold, but flows significantly more. You aren't making enough power to need a good quality tuned length manifold and the GT pumps mani has made some very nice power on some 63's.
