Be careful doing the unbolt/rebolt exhaust thing. These days they take photos of your exhaust when it gets tested and it'll be compared next time you get pulled up and so forth. TMU's can access all sorts of crazy shit on their car computers now.

You can have your car blacklisted in Victoria which makes it impossible to re-register that VIN. Makes life interesting. It's happened to a couple of nutter v8 powered things here in Ballarat.

that is true, they draw the exhaust up showing flanges and also showing what they are.. ie a cat.

ive had that done to me before in the old evo 1.

I dont see how they can give you shit for changing your exhaust.....? What if it:

A) Had a hole in it- you replaced it with a good one

B) Was to loud- replaced it with a better one

c) Had a 'rear end accident officer' and had to replace the damaged exhaust with a better one

I've never heard of any rules stating that you can only use one single exhaust in the life of a car- that's just going overboard

i think more the point is they do a diagram of the vehicle at test, you go fix it and quiet it down, then change it back, next time they pull you up they can see you have already been told about the current setup and you obviously haven't learnt your lesson

Yeah but what i'm saying is that if they're going to fuck you over, they're going to fuck you over. Pics of your exhaust or not.....

bastids.. gl getting it taken off...

that sucks that they can blacklist your car... gonna put a big dint in the price of the car if you have to sell it because you cant register it i vic

Entaran: no you car will not be under the legal 90dB limit with cams and an aftermarket muffler (whatever diameter exhaust). A stock evo from the factory puts out something like 86dB; and thats NOT at backoff, which will always be another 2-3dB higher.
As soon as you put on an aftermarket muffler; be it an Autobarn one or a Jasma one, the reading will almost always exceed 90dB at backoff.

4500rpm is the test speed which the noise test SHOULD be conducted, but alot if not all the guys with 2L evos/gsrs will have to do the test at 4875rpm.

Also, taking photos of your exhaust?? WTF? So what? It's your choice if you choose to take off the pea shooter after a noise test and switch to a cannon. You chose to take the risk of being caught.

NK: i have a stock catback which an OEM muffler. This will pass the EPA. PM me if you need to borrow it.

Cheers,
Alex

^^ what if my stationary rev limiter is set at 4200rpm ;) so it wont rev over 4200rpm while stationary.... also if u keep pressing the accelerator it will start making weird sounds......... and 20PSI boost ;)

i guess you need some way to disable the antilag/rev limiter.... *shrug*

what happens if a car doesnt hae a tacho? alot of cars dont after all... or do they hook up something themselves?

i reckon it should be rolling test on a dyno under a certain load or something...60kpf in 4th etc... that way its testing an acutuall scenario.. not something that is out of the ordinary, my rodeo ute red lines at 4200 for example (darn low reving diesels)

If you could set up a soft cut with whatever ecu you have i wonder if they just have to run the test at that. Set it at say 3500rpm.

Yep. When my Coupe had the GL spec cluster in it (no tacho), they rigged up their own.

nk, soory to hear mate, i just got epa cleared after 5 and a half months,, i took it too indy motors in morabin, good blokes... :) let me no how u goo..

with the change of the p-plate laws, the revenue for modded cars has probly halfed, so now they have to work harder

theres been at least 3 forum members defected by vicroads and knox tmu in recent months.. just something to keep in mind. they are specifically trained to trace actuator lines so most of you guys may want to remove your boost controllers as from what i've heard so far, it's an absolute pita to go in for a full emissions test. its easily costing me $1k+ for driving 5min from home on a thursday arvo.
