Evo 1 - Front brake lock up issue

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

If needed the GSR shell i have has the ABS unit and brake lines still in it if you require some parts. Im not sure if its the same part number/ABS unit as EVO1.

thanks for the offer, think I'll try another set of calipers first just incase this one is rooted - even though they both were rebuilt.

You should be able to tell which piston is grabing by which side of the rotor has the heat marks, if its both sides, id be looking further up the system.
When the calliper was rebuilt was it machined or hoaned?
Other thing you could try, is when it does lock up, check to see if there is hydrailic pressure on the brake bleed nipple, doing this though will require that side to be rebleed.

Just an update, set of calipers arrived and fitted just the one for the front left. Bled brakes again, took for test spin and same issue. So its definately further upsystem. This was without the ABS fuse in again. So ABS function has nothing to do with the issue.

Think I need to get this to a brake place now to fully check things out further.

Just a wild stab in the dark, are you sure its an evo 1 master cyl. Reason I ask is that some of the glxi lancer have a anti bleed back valve in the master cyl cause they have drum rears.

Should be an Evo master cylinder but am not 100% sure, but the car is a CD9A I'm the second owner of it in Aus.

Anyway, dropped car off to ABS in Seaford, they're going to further diagnose it. Will update when I know what the deal is! ABS guy seemed to point to ABS unit from our chat on the phone.

Ok guys, its all fixed - was the master cylinder in the end! The passenger side front disk and driver side rear are on the same circuit and the drivers rear pad was worn right down too, which i didn't notice! Anyway, just been for some very spirited drives tonight using a lot of brakes and she's all good. So nice work to the ABS Seaford guys in getting to the bottom of the problem.

$178 for the new master cylinder, plus 3 hours labour for all the diagnosis, refitting of disks, maching, bleeding etc.
