Evo 1 vs. Evo 2&3 rear differential

Your question is a bit vague and it depends in what context you mean?

As far as the 3.909 diff ratio, physical size and how it bolts onto the car... then NO, there isnt a difference between the actual diff housing sizes.

But if you are talking about internals, then YES they are different.
* EVO 1 GSR has a viscous rear LSD centre and you will need the cups/shafts that go with it if you want to fit it into your car (its the only one out the EVO 1-3 range that came with a viscous rear diff)
* EVO 1 RS and EVO 2/3 all have mechanical clutch type rear LSD's centres.

There's a pretty in depth discussion about it in this forum... probably should be a sticky.

yep, also
evo1 rs is 1 way
evo2 and 3 are 1.5 way

kthxbye

Great info!

That's what I was looking for.

I have a rear vicous coupling differential, what will I need to swap to a evo 2&3 rear differntial that is a mechanical 1.5 way?

Just need to change the rear driveshafts with ones from either a open rear diff or mechanical rear diff

do you mean CV shafts? or center driveshaft that comes from the center transfer case? sorry just want to be clear as sometimes people mean other things or is misinterpreted
