Help Support 4GTuner:

Hey guys

I also own a genuine EVO3. I get 180 kmh in 4th at 7200 rpm and still fifth to go but the speed limiter hits. But im also running 1.1 bar.
There is so many differences between other cars. But hope this helps. But it detonated HAHA

Hey runuts hows ur car going?

My engines at the shop, Middle jan should be in the car.

Hey whippet

Car is coming along awesome. Get it back on Weds, the respray is mint, every panel is dead straight, no more lil shopping trolley dings thats for sure.

Will be down there early Feb, so will have to catch up. Do a bit of a mini evo cruise. Just hangin to get my engine machined and sorted. Will be pushing the thing as far as the 20g comp can go, and then decide if im goin to change to a GT35R. Have so many parts at home now, i might as well start a shop. lol

Hey just a quick question...
On the EVO 3 bonnet there is a rectangle vent above the air box.
What is the purpuse of that?
Especialy when there is a OEM Airbox?
And if you put a "Pod" style on would you have trouble with water getter in/on the filter when it rains or you wash the car?
I mean i can understand if it's like a NACA duct like on the later models to force air in or if it's to force air out of the engine bay like the reverse 2 vents at the front of the bonnett.
But i dont see it doing that when it's just a flat bit of vent. (If you know what i mean?)

Cheers.

Evo 3's run 10 lb standard and hit a speed cut at 190 kph. With no speed cut they will pull max revs in 5 th at about 220kph.

That vent actually goes to the factory ducting which goes to the standard airbox.

My evo wont be here till next week so i cant have a look at it, but i dont see any ducting, just a sealed airbox.

Lee

On the right hand side(left of your picture), between the battery and the gaurd, is the duct which goes to your airbox. Hard to notice in that picture.

oh ok thanks for that mate.
So you think it's be better on keeping the OEM airbox (& fitting a Panel K&N filter) as to getting a pod style filter.
How good does the airbox flow.
Can you make good power with them in place?
Thanks. :)

Lee..

Stock airbox is good for more than most people will ever make. I've seen over 250kw@wheels made with them, so they cant be too bad.

having owned 2 genuine evo3's in recent years (in nz) max speed can vary through the gears depending on condition of the car, how ever i was able to pull 180km in 4th gear jst b4 hitting rev limiter . stock boost is 0.8bar aprox 12psi. around the 190km cut out is about right

You owned the yellow 3 right? What park of NZ are you from?

My GSR sits on 180km/h at the very top of 4th gear (7500rpm). 15PSI with a mildly modded GSR.

I'm not bragin or nuthin but @ 7000 i'm doin 235kph and my speedo is exactly 10 kph out! (has been checked buy 2 GPS) it is 10k out right across the range ie 50 = 60 100 = 110 180 = 190

so my speed cut hits at 180 kph on the dash (and boy does it cut)

(going to try that little screw thingi in the cluster)

O I'm running the Aussi GSR running gear

How did you reach 235kph if your speed limiter kicks in at 180?

FYI: GSR has a longer 5th Gear than an evo does.

i thought the evo 5th was slighly taller. but the other gears closer.
because i thought when i changed from my gsr driveline to evo2, 1,2,3,4 was closer and would rev more at ** given speed, but in 5th i thought i noticed it sitting on around 3.5k but with the gsr i thought it was closer to 4k at 120kph. could be wrong tho.

4K@ 120KPH is exactly right! Thats what mine does.....

My car was a AUSSI GSR 1.8ltr no speed cut! now it has an EVO conversion so it does have the speed cut!

so the 235kph equates to 245kph @ 7000rpm I had my frinds MR2 beside me to back it up.

I'm pretty sure the gsr has the longer 5th... apparently many guys in NZ take the gearing from the gsr and pop it in the evo gear.
